Infant Playground

Cover Story: ~Infant Infant Playground

by Mr Duncan Millward

One of the most influential psychoanalysts of the 20th century, Erik Erikson was quoted as saying, "the playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery". BPS promotes the use of play as a fundamental part of the curriculum, from Foundation Stage all the way through to Year 6. This is continually supported by the development of the playground areas, and as a school this has been reinforced with the new additions to the infant playground. A new climbing imbing wall and various play materials have been included around the existing play structures. This has increased the different opportunities that children have and as you can see from the photos, our students are enjoying the new opportunities!

Year 5 Reaches for the Stars by Mrs Jennifer Laird

Have you ever wondered how astronauts go to the bathroom while in space? Or how the Earth was created? If so, ask a year 5 child! This week, we visited the Taipei Astronomical Museum to extend our learning about space. We toured the wonderful exhibits to learn about how astronauts function on other planets, how scientists and engineers are designing vehicles and habitation modules that will allow us to live on other planets and even how astronauts auts are trained to survive the turbulent journey without feeling queasy. One highlight was the dome shaped cinema, where we learned about the space race and how technological advances mean we might one day visit the stars on holiday. Look out Camp Taiwan - Camp Mars is on its way!
