Trinity Catholic College Literacy Week Quest ! You must complete FIVE activities throughout the week to be eligible to win. ! th Monday 9 September 2013 1. At recess, go to the library and challenge a group of English teachers to a game of words-with-friends. Take a photo of your game as proof. 2. During lunch, attend a Teacher vs. Student debate in the library. Record the names of all six participants and provide three reasons for who should have won. 3. After school, head online to The Center for Digital Storytelling and listen/view the text - ‘Sofas’ (A Digital Story by Wayne Richard) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPrnDD51Y5s Answer the following questions * Identify a common characteristic shared between Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi. * What did the narrator learn to love while growing up? * Who spoke the truth to the narrator? * What is the interesting thing about sofas? ! ! th Tuesday 10 September 2013 1. During Pastoral Care, have your PC Class play the Sydney Morning Herald Nine Letter Word Puzzle. This will be emailed to you in the morning. Screenshot your classes result to prove you have played the game. 2. At lunch, visit the library to view the premiere screening of Caroline Le Tran’s HSC English Extension 2 Major Work. Afterwards, write a 100-word review of the film. 3. After school, go online to Room 425 (http://tccenglishfaculty.edublogs.org/) and read ONE of the short stories posted by students from Year 10 in 2012. Answer the following questions: * According to the main page, what is the purpose of the English course? * Identify three themes from your selected story. * Identify and explain two language techniques from your selected story. * What is the moral of the story? ! ! th Wednesday 11 September 2013 1. During recess, head to the Drama room and watch a group of Year 12 students perform their HSC Drama Major Work. Answer the following questions: * Make a list of five specific words, images or moments that caught your attention while you were sitting in your seat. * How did these words, images or moments contribute to your enjoyment of the play? 2. At lunch, visit Ms. Collete’s Office to view a Creative Arts piece. Write a 100-word reflection on what you think the artwork means. 3. After school, head to YouTube and listen/view the 2013 Tropfest short film - Punctured (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d5mm05FFOs). Answer the following questions * What is unique about this film? * Identify two recurring motifs from the film. * How has the director used sound to communicate their message? ! ! h Thursday 12 September 2013 1. During lunch, go to Yard 7 and watch/listen to members of the Choir perform two acoustic/acapella songs. Write a 100-word interpretive statement for one song i.e. what did the song mean to you? ! ! th Friday 13 September 2013 1. At recess, go to the library and challenge a group of Maths teachers to a game of words-with-friends. Take a photo of your game as proof. 2. During lunch go to the library to listen/view the feature film ‘The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.’ Afterwards, write a 100-word review of the film. 3. After school, head to Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/). Read a book of your choice and write a 100word review. !
