Alameda St. Los Angeles, CA 90012 August 18, 2011 9th Grade Students at Animo Jackie Robinson 3500 South Hill St. Los Angeles, CA 90007 Dear Students: My name is Mr.Gim and I am your Technology teacher. I was born in South Korea, raised in Venezuela and currently reside in the United States. I spent 8 formative years in Venezuela learning the culture and language. I am still able to comprehend the Spanish but have a difficulty speaking it at times; I’m hoping you can help me re-learn it. I attended Los Alamitos High School and received my B.S. and M.Ed. at UCLA. What I like about school is that I learn something new EVERY day (Even now). My top two personal strengths are 1) very resourceful I may not know everything or have everything I need but I always find a way to get them, 2) athletic - I am the assistant coach for the volleyball team and go to crossfit everyday (i will tell you about crossfit later). RESPECT for me is to treat others as you would like to be treated. During my free time I like to eat, cook, hike, and travel. I took culinary classes last year and I plan to continue taking classes in the future. Last Memorial Day weekend I made my friends hike 30 miles carrying a 30-pound backpack, they weren’t very happy with me. I used to play guitar for my church band. I grew up with computers all my life, before coming to Animo Jackie Robinson I worked at UCLA’s Dentistry IT division (fixed and helped people with their computer and software needs) . I enjoy watching all types of sports but my favorite sport is basketball. I just finished reading the Count De Monte Cristo by Alexander Duma. English is my third language and I sometimes struggle with vocabulary. My expectations of this class is to be respectful, eager to learn, and proactive. I wear glasses and without it I have a hard time reading small words/letters so I always wear my glasses. I am a kinesthetic learner, which means I learn best when I DO IT. My personal philosophy is “When you cease to learn you cease to dream, when you cease to dream, you cease to live.” Sincerely yours,

Mr.Gim Technology Teacher, Animo Jackie Robinson
