Changes at Hooker REAL estate giant LJ Hooker has made changes to the executive structure of the organisation to strengthen its managerial ranks and drive the next phase of company growth, according to new chairman Greg Paramor. L. Janusz Hooker has been appointed chief executive officer. He was the executive chairman. Mr Hooker is the grandson of the company’s founder Sir Leslie Hooker. He has had a distinguished career in company administration and won a bronze medal in rowing at the Atlanta Olympics. Mr Paramor, one of Australia’s most experienced and respected property executives, has been appointed chairman of the company. “L. Janusz Hooker is uniquely qualified to lead LJ Hooker and continue with the restructuring plan that he has undertaken over the past year as executive chairman,” Mr Paramor said. “This appointment is a key part of our strategic plan to make the company once again the leading real estate firm in Australasia.” Managing director Alan Lambert will retire at the end of December. Mr Lambert will remain in a consultancy capacity as senior adviser to the franchise side of the business and will remain on the LJ Hooker subsidiary boards. Mr Paramor said Mr Lambert had been with the company almost 35 years. These new appointments follow the announcement of Georg Chmiel as chief operating officer of LJ Hooker. ■

One-off East Fremantle property certain to pull a crowd at auction ANYONE who lives or has lived in East Fremantle knows the property at 4 Parker Street. Often referred to as ‘the Jetsons house’ because of its architectural design, it will be auctioned onsite at 1.30pm on Saturday, November 6. Built in 1957, the one-off threebedroom, one-bathroom home was designed by a Mr Bollig and built by Russian builders. Acton Attadale selling agent Ian Pittaway said more than 100 people had been through the property since it had come onto the market. Many of them were locals who either wanted to live in the home or just wanted to see inside. “The harbour-to-ocean views are just unmatched and the home has such an outthere style,” Mr Pittaway said. “Imagine what the reaction would have been like back in 1957.” Mr Pittaway said the property was being

Webb and Brown-Neaves building manager Peter Phur says building site theft has halved.

THEFT and vandalism on building sites is a mammoth problem for building companies and can result in million-dollar losses for some businesses. But in recent years there has been a steady decline in reported damages from building groups across Perth after the figure peaked at 360 reports in February, 2007. Webb & Brown-Neaves building manager Peter Phur said the introduction of the Name and Shame campaign in 2003 had generated a noticeable reduction in theft and vandalism on building sites. “Partnered with the WA Police and Meridian Investigators, the

initiative targets and prosecutes offenders committing crimes across our building sites,” Mr Phur said. “Webb & Brown-Neaves is a big supporter of it and it’s been incredible. Since we’ve joined, we’ve noticed a drop in theft of at least 50 per cent, so it’s definitely working.” The Name and Shame campaign was the brainchild of major building industry bodies, including the Housing Industry Australia. It is funded by the industry’s builders, manufacturers, suppliers and land developers. “You tend to see the newer, developed areas being targeted – places with all the building materials,” Mr Phur said.

The initiative names all convicted adult offenders in the hope it will deter offences on building sites. The campaign also offers sub-

stantial rewards for information leading to the arrest of thieves. Mr Phur said a new campaign to identify illegal site dumpers also received a resounding response from the community. In a bid to reduce the amount of illegal rubbish dumping on building sites, the Dob In A Dumper campaign identified offenders caught illegally dumping.
