As Dix & Eaton considered its next office move in downtown Cleveland, the communications firm sought a new area headquarters that would represent a modern day workplace environment while reflecting the company’s evolving brand. Partnering with DVA Architecture, Whiting-Turner and American Interiors, the firm selected a 22,000-square-foot space spanning the eighth and ninth floors of the historic Bulkley Building in Playhouse Square, creating an opportunity to establish a workplace that promotes collaboration, creativity and connection. Dix & Eaton sought a destination workplace that would encourage employees to gather in person, strengthen company culture and provide an engaging environment for clients and visitors. The design team responded with a sophisticated workplace that balances contemporary functionality with the building’s historic character. Respecting the architectural integrity of the Bulkley Building while meeting historic tax credit requirements was a central project objective. The project design sought to complement the building’s heritage to create a timeless architectural framework that supports the client’s goals. Architectural elements remain refined and understated, while Dix & Eaton’s signature colors are woven throughout the space through furniture, environmental graphics and carefully curated accent pieces. The result is a professional yet energetic atmosphere that reflects the firm’s creative culture. A defining feature of the headquarters is the monumental stair connecting the two floors. Serving as both a circulation element and statement piece, the stair promotes movement, visibility and interaction among employees, and also creates a striking visual focal point within the office. The workplace is designed to support a variety of work styles. While every employee has a private office, the headquarters also includes collaborative work areas, breakout spaces, lounges and informal gathering zones that encourage teamwork and spontaneous interaction. Amenities include a café, rooftop lounge, advanced technology infrastructure and spaces for both focused work and relaxation.
