recently completed expansion and renovation at the Geauga Transitional Living Center (TLC) in Chardon is helping meet a growing need for behavioral health services while creating a more welcoming and supportive environment for residents on their path to recovery. Operated by Ravenwood Health for more than 30 years, the TLC serves individuals experiencing mental health crises or transitioning from inpatient hospitalization back into the community. To better serve county residents, the facility recently underwent a $2.7 million renovation and expansion that increased its capacity from nine to 16 beds, more than doubling the size of the building. The project transformed the existing 3,600-square-foot facility with the addition of 4,024 square feet, creating a modern 7,624-square-foot environment designed to support recovery, dignity and community connection. The work was completed through a collaborative effort between the Geauga County Board of Mental Health & Recovery Services,
Ravenwood Health, Perspectus Architecture and general contractor Millstone Management Group. One of the project’s greatest challenges was maintaining operations throughout construction. Over a 15-month schedule, Perspectus and Millstone worked closely with facility leadership to carefully phase and sequence the work, allowing residents to continue receiving critical services while construction progressed around them. The team also partnered throughout design and construction to identify value engineering opportuni-
ties that preserved project goals and maximized the owner’s investment. The completed facility extends well beyond additional beds. New community gathering spaces encourage social interaction and engagement among residents. Upgrades to the kitchen, support areas and outdoor spaces improve both functionality and quality of life.
