s I step into the role of president of NAIOP Northern Ohio for 2026, I am both honored and mindful of the responsibility to lead during a time of significant transition and complexity in our commercial real estate (CRE) market.

The landscape we face this year is shaped by a mix of promising opportunities and persistent challenges that demand resilience, strategic foresight and collaboration. The Northeast Ohio CRE market has demonstrated remarkable adaptability over recent years, weathering economic fluctuations, demographic shifts and evolving market dynamics. As the new year begins, the outlook remains cautiously optimistic, but it is essential to recognize the risks that could temper growth and require prudent navigation.
Economic + market realities
The CRE market in Northeast Ohio is entering 2026 with a strong outlook. Recent adjustments in interest rates have improved access to capital, encouraging investment and development activity across multiple sectors. Ohio’s job market remains stable and is forecasted to add approximately 400,000 new jobs in 2025, with growth expected to accelerate in
2026. This steady employment expansion supports demand for commercial spaces, multifamily housing and industrial facilities, reinforcing the region’s role as a vital economic engine. These positive economic indicators underscore the importance of CRE as a cornerstone of local and national prosperity. Our industry provides the physical infrastructure that enables businesses to innovate, grow and serve their communities. As companies continue to adapt to evolving market conditions, the demand for flexible, well-located and thoughtfully designed spaces remains strong.
