Thompson Hine Hosts Discussion on AI Energy Demands

T
hompson Hine LLP recently convened industry leaders in Cleveland to examine the growing challenge of supplying reliable power for data centers and other large-scale development projects as artificial intelligence drives unprecedented demand for electricity. The June 25 program, “Powering the Future: Energy in the AI Age,” focused on how shifting energy sources, emerging technologies and evolving regulatory frameworks “Powering the Future” Panel Discussion are influencing energy planning for digital infrastructure and major commercial developments. The panel featured Rachel Lindesmith (FirstEnergy), Derek Niece (Ramboll EYP Mission Critical Facilities Inc.), Terry Coyne (Newmark Ohio), Brian Thiry (ReliabilityFirst) and Robert L. Nelson Jr. (Thompson Hine). Speakers discussed the growing importance of securing dependable electrical capacity to support data centers, while addressing supply constraints, the ongoing energy transition and the evolving policy environment. The program highlighted the role collaboration among utilities, developers, consultants and legal advisers will play in meeting the accelerating infrastructure demands. James Frankel and Thomas Coyne, partners in Thompson Hine’s Digital Infrastructure group, served as program co-chairs.
Hasenstab Announces Robert Medziuch’s Retirement Hasenstab Architects recently announced the retirement of Robert Medziuch, concluding a 41-year career in architecture, including 39 years with the Akron-based firm. Medziuch joined Hasenstab
Architects in 1986 and became an owner and principal in 1993. He also served as vice president from 2012 through 2025, helping oversee the firm’s offices in Akron, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. A healthcare design specialist, Medziuch led the firm’s Healthcare Design
Studio for more than 20 years. During his tenure, he directed the planning and design of numerous healthcare projects throughout the region and developed long-standing relationships with healthcare clients. Hasenstab credits Medziuch with helping

expand its healthcare practice while contributing to the firm’s long-term growth. In addition to leading major projects, he mentored younger architects and project teams, helping shape the firm’s leadership and design culture. His retirement marks the close of nearly four decades with Hasenstab Architects and more than four decades in the architecture profession.
