INFORMATION PROCESSING INTERMEDIATE LEVEL COURSE OUTLINE (August 31, 2010) I.

Examine the fundamental terminology, equipment procedures, and concepts used in a computerized environment. Develop the ability to use the computer to help solve problems, manipulate data, and draw inferences from data. Examine the potential of computers in personal and professional activities. Become adept at the manipulation of hardware and software as a preparation for career or personal use. Become aware of the potential for computer-based communications. Recognize the impact of computers on productivity and career paths. Demonstrate basic file management skills Enter text and data using proper touch keyboarding technique. Identify components of a computer workstation and basic functions of a computer. Consistently apply appropriate workstation routines Demonstrate effort to develop basic competencies Demonstrate basic electronic spreadsheet software by creating a spreadsheet, manipulating the data in a spreadsheet and generating reports. Demonstrate basic electronic publishing software by using page make-up tools and commands to produce a document. Demonstrate electronic publishing software competence by producing a customized document. Develop personal use Internet skills for accessing and communicating data and information, with particular emphasis on the World Wide Web.

Learn about computer programming languages and a structured programming environment, construct algorithms and code instructions to solve identified problems. Enhance their keyboarding competencies

MODULES STUDENTS WILL WORK ON AT LEAST SIX (6) MODULES TO RECEIVE SIX (6) CREDITS. INF2020 KEYBOARDING • Students enhance their personal use keyboarding competencies by increasing the rate of accurate touch key stroking of the alphabetic, numeric and punctuation keys. INF2050 WORD PROCESSING 2 • Students expand their skills in using word processing software commands and functions to produce mailable reports and correspondence, including letters, memorandums and tables. INF2080 SPREADSHEET 2 • Students demonstrate advanced level spreadsheet commands and functions to calculate and manipulate data and to prepare appropriate reports and printouts in text and graphic format. INF2090 CORRESPONDENCE • Students expand their rate of document production as they prepare various forms of correspondence in mailable form, using word processing software. INF2910 INF PROJECT B • Students develop document production skills requiring the integration of data, text and graphics. INF2920 INF PROJECT C • Utilize file management procedures efficiently • Install and use software to support and maintain the integrity of workstation hardware • Computer architecture, peripherals, configurations, operating system environments • Consistently apply workstation routines • Demonstrate effort to improve basic competencies

Students must achieve at least 50% on all assignments Assignments under 50% will have to be redone • The student’s mark will then be an average of the original mark and the redone assignment until 50% is achieved Zero (0) will be assigned to missed assignments Assignments are to be completed on time and all assignments are due by the last class of the semester All assignments of a module must be completed with a minimum mark of 50% before credit will be given for that module A minimum mark of between 25% to 45% will be assigned incomplete modules School policy states that a student will receive a minimum mark of 25% for each module based on criteria such as attendance
