BILINGUAL STREAM 1B

Project: I love you, my heart

Did you know you are coming to school, studying, walking, running, playing, eating and doing lots of more things thanks to your heart? As your heart is so important for you, you have to spend some time working on it. In groups of six students, your task is to study heart’s anatomy and to make a tridimensional model of the heart, by using card, bags, sponges, expanded polystyrene, etc. Once you have finished the model your team has to write a short report explaining your model characteristics, as well as the main problems you have found to do this project. Each team has to explain this report in front of the group.

VOCABULARY YOU NEED As you have to add labels to your model, let’s review the main parts of the heart you have to identify:

The upper chambers of the heart are called atria (right atrium and left atrium)

The lower chambers are called ventricles (right ventricle and left ventricle)

The blood vessels entering the heart atria are the pulmonary veins and the superior and inferior cava veins

The blood vessels leaving the heart ventricles are the pulmonary artery and the aorta artery

There are two valves placed between each atrium and the corresponding ventricle (tricuspid and mitral valves), and another two valves placed at the begining of each artery (pulmonary valve and aortic valve)

Once your models are done, we will take pictures of them, and make a PowerPoint with these pictures to upload to the PILOD blog.
