MEETING MINUTES TOPIC: SCIENCE 2 – TOWER LAYOUTS DATE & TIME: 9/24/19 @ 9:30AM – 10:45AM LOCATION: PF SHED ATTENDEES: SONDRA HILLDALE, CARL LIPO, MARY PETROSKY, MICHELLE PONCZEK, KARIN SAUER, JESENKO MUFTIC, BILL HALL

MINUTES: 1. THE GROUP REVIEWED THE CURRENTLY PROPOSED TOWER FLOOR PLANS: a. TUTORING CENTER FOR THE SCIENCES i. THE TUTORING CENTER WAS MOVED TO THE 7TH FLOOR TO INCREASE THE MAX. ALLOWABLE CHEMICAL USE IN THE LABS. ii. MICHELLE NOTED THAT THIS IS NOT DESIRABLE. THE LOCATION NEEDS TO BE LESS REMOTE. iii. THE LOCATION OF THE TUTORING CENTER WILL BE RETHOUGHT, ALTERNATE LOCATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT MONTH AND DIRECTION WILL BE GIVEN FOR WHETHER OR NOT IT SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE 7TH FLOOR OF THE TOWER. TH b. 8 FLOOR ADMINISTRATIVE SUITE i. CARL NOTED THAT LOCATING THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE NEW SCHOOL ON THE 8TH FLOOR OF THE TOWER WOULD BE TOO REMOTE - IT WOULD BE ISOLATED AND CONTRARY TO THE INTERDISCIPLINARY NATURE OF THE PROGRAM. ii. SONDRA & MICHELLE WILL PURSUE HOUSING THE NEW SCHOOL PROGRAM IN ACADEMIC B AFTER THE NURSING SCHOOL MOVES OUT AND INTO 48 CORLISS. iii. THE 8TH FLOOR LAYOUT CAN REMAIN AS IS WITH THE PROPOSITION THAT IT WOULD BE A SURGE ADMINISTRATIVE SUITE. c. OVERALL PROGRAM: i. OVERALL THE GROUP AGREED THAT THE NATURE OF THE DIVISION OF SPACE IN THE TOWER IS ISOLATING. THERE WILL

NEED TO BE AN EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE OCCUPANTS TO TRAVEL BETWEEN FLOORS AND COLLABORATE. ii. JESENKO ADVOCATED FOR THE TOWER TO BE USED AS A SEMIPERMANENT SURGE SPACE FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS WHILE THE CAMPUS SCIENCE BUILDINGS CONTINUE TO UNDERGO RENOVATION. d. COLLABORATIVE SPACE: i. KARIN EMPHASIZED THE NEED FOR COLLABORATIVE SPACES AND COMMUNAL BREAKROOMS ON DESIGNATED FLOORS IN THE TOWER. 1. MICHELLE SAID TO TRY AND LOCATE SOME MID-SIZE SPACES FOR THIS USE – LARGER THAN AN OFFICE BUT SMALLER THAN A CONFERENCE ROOM. ii. KARIN ALSO EMPHASIZED THAT BIOLOGY PREFERS UTILIZING SHARED LAB SPACES TO ENCOURAGE COLLABORATION. 1. MARY WILL LOOK AT CHANGING THE WALL THAT DIVIDES THE TWO SOUTH FACING LAB SPACES INTO AN OPERABLE PARTITION SO THAT THEY CAN BE USED AS A SINGLE SHARED LAB SPACE OR TWO SEPARATE LABS. iii. MARY WILL TRY TO COME UP WITH ONE OR TWO OPTIONS FOR COLLABORATIVE SPACES IN THE CURRENT LOCATION OF THE TUTORING CENTER (ASSUMING THAT LEAVES THE TOWER). SUMMARY & FOLLOW-UP: 1. DETERMINE NEXT DATE AND TIME TO MEET. FOLLOW UP IN TWO WEEKS. a. PROPOSED: October 29th REFERENCES & ATTACHMENTS: 1. PROPOSED FLOOR PLANS 2. IN PROGRESS SCHEDULE 3. LAB ROOM DATA SHEET QUESTIONNAIRE
