Building a six pack abs is really a challenging issue! The full name is rectus abdominis. 'Rectus' is a Latin word for proper, straight and upright'. But before starting to get trained for getting a six pack, it should be taken into account that training your abs without training your back can create an imbalance in the system of muscles that supports your spine. The best exercise for abs is one that forces you to go into entire core overdrive to support your spine. For starters, you can begin with crunches. Just lay on floor with your arms in front of your chest. Then bend your knees up. Never place both of your hands behind your head. Doing so can cause lower back problems. You can also cross your arms in front of your chest and lightly place the finger tips behind your ears. Do not pull your neck. Now raise the shoulders towards the knees. After that you have to lift your shoulders off the floor. When you begin to lift off the floor, then try to exhale through your mouth. Then just pause for a few seconds once you are at the top of the crunch. Now exhale the last bit of air from your diaphragm while flexing your abs. Then lower your back down slowly while inhaling until your shoulder blades touch the ground. But do not let your head touch the ground. You can also try sit ups. Lie on the floor with your feet on the floor and knees up with your fingers placed behind your ears. Sit all the way when you go up while lifting your lower back off the floor and also your shoulder blades. Further lower yourself down. You have to repeat this process. After sometimes when this work out turns to be relatively easier then try something more challenging! Get yourself an incline bench and do this exercise with it. After you have finished with this, then try something new! Go for bicycle crunches. You have to lift your feet off the ground when you are doing sit ups by alternating each leg in the air. If you find that your hands are behind your head then quickly lift your left knee up so that it can touch your right elbow. Then lift your right knee to your left elbow. Leg lifts are also of great help for building six packs. At first you have to lie on the floor with your legs straight out and your hands stretched to both sides. Then slowly lift your legs straight up unless and until they are at ninety degree to your body. Next, lower your legs and repeat the same without letting your legs touch the floor. A difficult and very challenging work out in this context is the Jack knife sit ups! First lie down on the floor. Then keep your hands on the ground at your sides for balance. Raise your knees and torso at the same time so that the knees and the face lie on the same straight line. You will find that your legs will automatically fold thus bringing your feet towards the hips just like a jackknife. When you have finished with this process then lie back down and repeat.


Last but not the least, it is important to work on your oblique muscles though to work on your oblique muscles at first is not a wise decision to make. These are the muscles to either side of your stomach. There are many ways to do this. The main trick is to twist your torso against a resistance. There are several twisting machines available in the market and you can try with any one you feel like.
