* Maud Radtke, born in 1982, has studied Graphic Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany, from 2003–2010. During her study and work as a freelancer, she has collaborated, produced and lead many print projects. She has also worked on several animation projects. In 2008 she has worked as an intern for the Hong-Kong based magazine “IdN”. Currently she is the art director of the German monthly newspaper “Uptown”.

Specializing in one color per issue, it will tell you everything about that color from detailed information – like the origins of its name – to its use in a broader or even metaphorical sense – like the article about “pink noise” in the first issue Pink. lining prejudices* idea, concept & design for a new magazine / designed as a folding map … * “b” is the dummy for a magazine. We all know the prejudices that exist between people, races and countries. It even exists between districts of big cities. “b” diggs deep into these issues, underlining and not denying, yet clarifying what might be just a prejudice or the truth. It comes in a handy 20 x 18 cm format, folded like a folding map you can put in your pocket. Yet unfolded it can be used as a poster. The poster is 100 x 104 cm big.

Published annually it focusses on one single topic each issue. The design, size, color and use of paper changes with each issue. This is so it can reflect the specific topic of the magazine. It is called “real time” as the page numbers are replaced by a countdown that counts down the time that is left to read the rest of the magazine. Format: 26 x 20 cm / www.echtzeit.org

It is sent as a freebie to owners of private houses in big cities. Within its four books it publishes articles about economy, law, finances, energy politics and urban as well as individual living and lifestyle trends. Several times it has been awarded with “Awards of Excellences” by the European Newspaper Award and a “red dot” by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. Format: 35 x 51 cm / www.uptown-online.de
