DESIGN MONTREAL KITCHENS 2018

Gauthier and her colleague, Eve Deslauriers, chose a soft white for most of the kitchen’s elements to make the room feel as bright and expansive as possible but still warm. The B.C. fir chosen for the overhead beams adds a hint of country style, while the island’s varnished and darker laminated maple grounds the space.

“The homeowners wanted an island large enough for everyone to gather around during a cocktail party,” Gauthier says. “They picked the chrome stools to add a touch of glam.” While all the major appliances are stainless steel, their industrial heft is counterbalanced by the preponderance of white and the wooden beams. •

The island was made intentionally large to provide ample space for appetizers and drinks. It also counterbalances the width of the side-by-side-ovens/range unit and its wide hood. Countertops: Caesarstone; range: DCS; range hood: Jenn-Air; refrigerator: Sub-Zero; dishwasher: Fisher & Paykel.
