TAMARIND and SALT The Chin Family serving in Indonesia April 2011

OH BABY… YOU KNOW THIS IS HOW RUMORS GET STARTED... Many of you may have heard grumblings and bumblings that we are expecting another little bundle of joy and we are! We found out about a month ago when the cravings for burgers started early. This time I feel like I’ve been able to fulfill my husbandly duty and provide for my wife in her time of need by doing the occasional run to the local burger joint, that will remain nameless for fear they will recognize me. We don’t yet know whether we’ll be welcoming a new baby boy or girl to this world, but we do know that the arrival will be early October. Many of you are already wondering, “What does this mean for you and going with MAF?” Well, it has given tremendous structure and a bit of pressure to the rest of our time here in the States! Since the baby is due at the beginning of October, MAF has decided to bring us out to our final standardization and training at the end of April, even though our ministry support is not where it would normally need to be in order to attend this training. We are all stepping out in faith that the Lord will continue to provide ministry partners making it possible to be in Indonesia by the end of the year. We had originally intended to be there by the fall. However, with the baby being due so close to our original departure date we, along with MAF, decided it would best to delay a few months to make sure mom and baby are “ok” before heading to Indonesia. While we are excited to meet this little one and welcome them to our family, we are also nervous about the unknowns as we move to Indonesia. Even before we go, we are continually learning to lean on Him and trust in His allsufficient grace!

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

~2 Corinthians 12:9

It is amazing to us to see how God’s timing is perfect! He crafts each detail in our lives as pieces of a uniquely crafted puzzle that only He can bring together. In just three short weeks we leave the Charlotte area where we have had a great opportunity to do concentrated support raising! From Charlotte we head out to Nampa, ID from the 23rd of April until the 2nd of July. After completing our training at MAF in Idaho, we plan to get down to visit “all ya’ll” in Florida during the month of July, then on to Baltimore.

Timing is everything!

Thank you so much for being an integral part of this puzzle! We have enjoyed the time that we have had with each of you over meals, worship services and other opportunities that we have had to share our vision for ministry in Indonesia. God has begun to bring together the pieces of this puzzle and as we have seen them fit together we have been able to see His hand move swiftly, skillfully and precisely. Like a puzzle, sometimes you must smooth the edges to make it fit just right, and so it has been with us. We are thankful for the pieces that He has already built revealing a picture beyond our comprehension. We know He is moving and is faithful! Please pray for endurance for us- that we finish this chapter well and especially for Amy and the new baby. Also pray for the remaining 40% of our ministry support still needed before departure in December. Whew! I have to say that even in writing it all out a sense of anxiousness overcomes me. Yet, I am reminded that in all things we are more than conquerors and that His grace is sufficient. We know this well with our heads, but often our hearts struggle. Thank you so much for taking this journey with us, for your prayers, encouragement and financial support you are such a blessing and encouragement to our family. Your partnership means the world to us! In Christ-

Indonesia Needs Your Prayers Too~ In the last week or so we have received news of a couple of things that you can be praying for in Indonesia~ One of the missionaries MAF serves in the province of Papua recently shared with his MAF pilot that testing of local high school age kids revealed that 50% of that age group are HIV positive! Fifty percent! This is a staggering statistic that I struggle to wrap my mind around. We can praise that an HIV/AIDS specialist has recently moved to this area and will be serving there for a few years, yet the needs are huge! Pray that the people and churches will take responsibility to stop the spread of this deadly disease. ~ On March 11 one of the MAF planes had an accident in Papua, when it appears one of the tires blew upon landing. Praise the Lord that none of the 10 people onboard were injured, however the airplane was significantly damaged. The amazing thing is that at almost as soon as we heard about this accident, we also heard that God has already provided above and beyond for the ongoing needs in Papua as 2 Kodiak airplanes were donated to MAF specifically for this area! Please pray for the MAF team in Papua as they work to repair the damage and get the plane back in working order so that they can continue to serve the Papuan people. You can also pray for a quick delivery and registration for the new planes heading to Indonesia!
