Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film – The Producers – once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers out of millions. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Bialystock and Bloom as they maneuver their way through finding the worst show ever written (the gloriously offensive Springtime For Hitler), hiring the worst director in town (a flamboyant cross-dresser), and unscrupulously wooing SERIES SPONSOR:

little old ladies for their money are a classic example of comic confusion. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. Nominated for 15 Tony Awards, the show won 12, breaking the record previously set by Hello, Dolly! in 1964 and making it the “winningest” Broadway musical in history. The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”

REVUE Friday, October 18, 2013 | 8:00 PM Formed in 1989 in Los Angeles, Royal Crown Revue (RCR) is often credited with starting the swing revival movement of the 1990s. The band’s unique hybrid sound emerged out of their mutual admiration and love of rhythm and blues, jazz, punk, rockabilly, soul, and swing, among other styles of American roots music. RCR’s rise to fame began with an appearance in the 1994 Jim Carrey blockbuster The Mask. This led to a residency at Los Angeles’ landmark club The Derby, garnering the band worldwide recognition and acclaim. The underground swing scene they created at the club became the basis for the hit film Swingers. By the late ‘90s, RCR had exploded onto the world stage, where they continue to be a popular fixture. The band has performed at many of the world’s most prestigious venues, from the Hollywood Bowl in California to Radio City Music Hall in New York. They have also collaborated with a stunning variety of top artists, from James Brown to Bette Midler to Gene Simmons, while their music – in particular the breakout track “Hey Pachuco!” – has been featured in countless motion pictures, television shows, and commercials. Stronger than ever, Royal Crown Revue continues to play to sold-out crowds across the globe, satisfying longtime fans and welcoming the next generation of “royalty” with their trademark high-powered style.

The Joy Luck Club Saturday, October 26, 2013 | 8:00 PM Based on the popular book, The Joy Luck Club is a timeless and engaging story, both poignant and humorous, that resonates with a wide array of audiences through its universally shared issues and themes common to every family. A classic mother-daughter tale, The Joy Luck Club reaches beyond cultural boundaries of family, hope, love, sacrifice, strength, and dreams of a better life. “Wrenching...when they laugh we laugh, and when, more often, they suffer, we grieve.” - The New York Times “Blending hilarity and heartbreak, the play has moments both side-splitting and shattering... Devastatingly emotional.” - The Los Angeles Times “...genuine catnip for moms of all ethnicities and their female progeny.” - Backstage

Dan Hicks & the Hot

Sunday, November 10, 2013 | 7:30 PM

Throughout the 1960s and ‘70s, there was no one who sounded at all like Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks, and remarkably, nearly 40 years later, there still isn’t. This American singer-songwriter combines cowboy folk, jazz, country, swing, bluegrass, pop, and gypsy music in his one-of-a-kind sound. Luckily for audiences, in 2000, amidst the new wave of freak folk that prides itself on its eclecticism, Dan reassembled the Hot Licks. Getting back into the swing of recording and touring, Dan Hicks has proven once again that he will always be the king of hipster-chic. The newest incarnation of Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks released their first album, the wildly successful Beatin’ the Heat, in 2000. Called “one of the blessings of the new millennium” by USA Today, the record featured collaborations with Bette Midler, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Rickie Lee Jones, and Brian Setzer. 2009’s Tangled Tales gained critical acclaim, featuring all new original songs and special guests such as David Grisman and Charlie Musselwhite. To quote Daily Variety, “Dan Hicks is at the top of his game... unlike many pop artists today, a new studio album from Dan Hicks is like a new painting from Picasso.” “Dan Hicks is the eternal hipster, purveyor of the most swingin’ tunes the rock generation ever enjoyed.” – Minneapolis Star Tribune “So few truly original figures exist in the pop music world that Dan Hicks should be a national treasure.” – The San Francisco Chronicle “As a long time Dan Hicks fan, it was a real thrill to trade licks with Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks.” – Elvis Costello “I’m a huge Dan fan!” – Brian Setzer “Dan Hicks is lighting in a bottle. I love him and thank God he’s back to lift us out of our musical doldrums.” – Bette Midler

California Guitar Trio Montreal Guitar Trio E c l e c ti c , E n e r g e ti c , a n d S p e c t a c u l a r

Saturday, November 16, 2013 | 8:00 PM Featuring six virtuoso guitarists from four countries – Japan, Canada, Belgium, and the U.S. – the California Guitar Trio (CGT) and Montreal Guitar Trio (MG3) fuse over 40 years of combined performing experience into one unique “phenomensemble.” In a pleasantly surprising way, CGT’s steel strings blend naturally with MG3’s nylon strings as each trio lends itself to the other’s original compositions and new arrangements of progressive rock, world, jazz, and classical music. Their performances astounding and their diversity unparalleled, the three revered musicians that make up the California Guitar Trio are united in their breathtaking technical wizardry. The group renders a wide range of instrumental music, everything from unique originals to dazzling, cleverly arranged interpretations of jazz, classical music, and even surf rock. Their 2010 album, Andromeda, was named Best Instrumental Album that year by the Indie Acoustic Project. When it comes to bridging diverse genres of music, the Montreal Guitar Trio has quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with. For more than 13 years, the trio’s virtuosity, rigor, creativity, and dynamic stage presence — they are noted for the wit and warmth of their interactions with audiences — have been winning applause around the world. In 2011 MG3 won the Opus Prize for Concert of the Year in the jazz/world music category.

An Acoustic Evening with

Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt   Sunday, November 24, 2013 | 7:30 PM Singer, composer, and actor Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. His body of work, rich and eclectic, is one of the most beloved of any living artist working today. Among his many accolades are four Grammy Awards, the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and the title of Texas State Musician. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Over thirty-five years after the release of his debut album, John Hiatt remains one of America’s most respected and influential singer-songwriters. His songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Emmylou Harris, Iggy Pop, Rosanne Cash (the #1 country hit “The Way We Make A Broken Heart”), the Jeff Healey Band (“Angel Eyes”), and Willie Nelson. In the past few years alone, Hiatt has been honored with his own star on Nashville’s Walk of Fame, received the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was named Best Male Vocalist in Rolling Stone’s annual Critics Poll, all thanks to his patented rootsy rock/country/blues fusion. These two titans of Americana come together on MBT’s stage for the first time since 2007’s sold-out Songwriters Tour gala – this is an evening you definitely don’t want to miss.

WAR’s career skyrocketed in the early 1970s with the release of “Slippin’ into Darkness” and “Me and Baby Brother.” The group’s exhilarating sound spoke to millions of Americans about the troubled times of Vietnam and Watergate as well as inner city tension and racial strife. Since then, WAR’s global popularity has grown steadily, a tribute to the timelessness of its music and message. To date the band has sold nearly 50 million records; has received 17 gold, platinum, and multi-platinum certification awards; and has twice been honored by its hometown of Los Angeles for its music’s positive contributions to the betterment of the community. Judy Collins & The Passenger String Quartet

Saturday, February 1, 2014 | 8:00 PM An award-winning singer-songwriter, Judy Collins is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her impressive career began at age 13, when she was a piano prodigy dazzling audiences with her performance of Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos. The hard-luck tales and rugged sensitivity of folk revival music by artists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger later lured her away from a life as a concert pianist. Since those earliest days of her career, Judy has inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 50-album body of work and find inspiration in the spiritual discipline that has allowed Judy to thrive in the music industry for half a century. Now age 74, Judy Collins is as creatively vigorous as ever, writing, performing nationwide, and nurturing fresh talent. The Seattle-born artist has invited the Pacific Northwest’s own Passenger String Quartet to join her for this memorable concert.

His post-modern style is influenced by a variety of eras and genres, including folk, rock, jazz, and pop, and he has been described as “a living link to the seminal Delta blues that travelled up the Mississippi River and across the expanse of America.” Keb’ doesn’t just limit himself to award-winning albums – he composed and recorded music for the acclaimed TNT series Memphis Beat, was a key figure in the acclaimed PBS series Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues, and appeared in the documentary Can’t You Hear the Wind Howl? as legendary bluesman Robert Johnson, one of his greatest influences. Keb’s most recent success is his album, The Reflection, which includes some of the best songwriting of his career and features collaborations with such notable guests as country superstar Vince Gill, nouveau-soul chanteuse India.Arie, jazz saxophonist Dave Koz, and veteran guitarist David T. Arlo Guthrie

Here Come the Kid(s) Tour Friday, April 25, 2014 | 8:00 PM For the past year Arlo Guthrie has toured in recognition of father Woody’s centennial. The younger artist continues to honor the elder’s remarkable legacy with this celebration, a spirited musical tribute from a son to his father. Woody Guthrie instilled in his children the commitment to fighting the good fight, a notion that Arlo has always brought to his own work throughout his career spanning over four decades. Arlo’s songwriting, humor, activism and unequaled manner of telling a tale discernibly exhibit the Guthrie family traits that Woody imparted. Arlo also draws from the extensive catalogue of songs taught to him by Woody and friends such as Lead Belly, Cisco Houston, and Brownie McGhee. More than fifty years after his first performance opening for Cisco, Arlo’s commitment to music and tradition is as strong as ever. The Here Come The Kid(s) tour emphasizes the bestloved songs and stories that the Guthrie family most closely associates with the distinguished patriarch.

HAIR – a joyous celebration of youth and a poignant journey through the tumultuous 1960s America! This exuberant musical about searching for truth, peace and love in Vietnam War-era America continues to strike a resonant chord with audiences of all ages. The themes and struggles in HAIR seem as vital and relevant today. The long list of chart-topping hit songs including “Aquarius,” “Let the Sun Shine in,” “Good Morning, Starshine” and “Easy to be Hard,” became anthems of counter-culture and the sexual revolution and continue to have a profound impact on audiences. HAIR tells the story of the “tribe,” a group of politically active “Age of Aquarius” hippies living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. They struggle to balance their lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. The musical’s profanity, depiction of the use of illegal drugs, sexuality, irreverence for the American flag, and nude scene caused much comment and controversy when it arrived on Broadway. “HAIR still has something significant to say.” - Baltimore Sun “The Ultimate American Rock Musical!” - The New York Times “Exhilarating!” - Los Angeles Times

In addition to her own chart success with recordings such as “Personally” and the Footloose single “Somebody’s Eyes,” Karla has seen many of her ballads become pop classics, and songs such as “Tell Me Why” become hits for such stellar artists as Wynonna Judd, Bonnie Raitt, and Linda Ronstadt.

The critical acclaim Jimmy Webb has received during his more than 40 years of success is as remarkable as his accomplishments. The composer and singer is a member of the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and is the only artist ever to have won Grammy Awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration. Jimmy is best known for the astonishing string of multi-platinum hits he has provided for artists such as Glen Campbell (“By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston”), Richard Harris (“MacArthur Park”), the Fifth Dimension (“Up, Up and Away”), the Brooklyn Bridge (“The Worst That Could Happen”), Art Garfunkel (“All I Know”), Linda Ronstadt (“Easy For You To Say”), and the Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, & Kris Kristofferson country supergroup the Highwaymen (“The Highwayman”), among many, many others.

Turn up that dial... From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, comes a hot new Broadway musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, Memphis is about a radio DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves — filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll. Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, Memphis played pre-Broadway at the La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, and features a Tony®-winning book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and a Tony®-winning original score with music by Bon Jovi’s founding member David Bryan. Memphis is directed by Tony® nominee Christopher Ashley (Xanadu), and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys). Get ready to experience Broadway’s most exciting new destination – what Associated Press calls “The very essence of what a Broadway musical should be.” EXCLUSIVE SPONSOR:

Thank you to our donors, who make possible everything you see at MBT The theatre is full; the audience rustles in their seats. Murmurs and quiet conversations fill the air. Lights go down; the theatre hushes. Anticipation builds... until: • A saxophone’s liquid notes ripple across the audience; • A spotlight opens, focusing on a lone ballerina pirouetting across the stage; • Your favorite comedian walks onto the stage, amid thunderous applause; • Stage lights come up on a group of children. You see your son or daughter adjusting their costume, and the first quavering voice opens the show. This is your theatre, your community, your place. Whether you are an MBT member, sponsor, or attendee, your support brings a wide variety of performing arts to our historic theatre, including local arts organization events.

Did you know that your ticket price covers only half of the cost of any given show?
