Intercontinental Rally 2018 Sahara is the greatest desert on earth. Inhuman conditons, endless sand dunes, and vast plains all belong to her, as does the legendary route to Dakar. This bustling city in Senegal has been the finish line of rally drivers since 1978. A rally isn´t just a race against time. Disorientation, long distances and Isolation are all part of the challenge. The Intercontinental Rally at 6.000 km is one of the last big rally-adventures on earth.
Dominique Cizeau He registered the first time ever in a rally in 2017. A friend he met in Zagora (Morocco) convinced him to do it. Sadly his friend had to give up at the second day of the Intercontinental Rally 2017, so Dominique found himself alone and without any experience in a rally of 15 days and 6.000 km! But he managed to reached Dakar and he is still fascinated by the challenge, difficulties, concentration and the navigation, which is all part of the game. The relationship with the assistance and with other participants, as well as the competitiveness between them plus riding through magic places fills him and makes him alive. Finally he told himself to come back again and do some homework before!
Start The journey begins next to Almeria in Spain. This beautiful place is located in the region Andalucia, directly at the coast of the mediterranean. It is the last waypoint before africa and the camping „La Garoffa“ gives a warm welcome and a last chance for a rest to all participants before the adventure starts.
The organisation crew „a rally without them is simply impossible“ Dominik Steger Günther Steger Veronika Kralova Lubomir Vojkuvka
Pavel Sopik Iva Raskova Martina Krsickova Dalibor Picka
Klara Zeminova Matej Bresky Jan Smolucha Jiri Vasatko
Jiri Vasatko / Organizer Intercontinental Rally He is a passionate rally driver and turned into a organizer after the old „Paris-Dakar“ Rally went to south america in 2009. Since 2011 the Intercontinental Rally follows the spirit of the „real way to Dakar“ and keeps the adventure in Africa, as a „non commercial rally“ for everybody alive.
Morocco After 5 hours at sea on the Mediterranean we reach the fascinating continent and have already taken on a bit of time travel together. All that is modern and comfortable has been left behind us. Culture, landscapes, and ways of life have been replaced. The daily life in Morocco impresses with a varied picture of cold mountains, high dunes and lively villages.
Mauritania The border of Mauritania is like a border to another world. This country is almost three times the size of Germany, but has only four million people. Only three large roads cross the countryside, connecting the small villages with each other. A lifeline that goes straight across the desert. Mauritania is one big desert! Dry air, sand, and dust dominate everyday life.
Senegal Just after crossing the border into Senegal, we cross the river bearing the same name. A 1.000 km long water source that forms the natural border between the two countries. And there where water is, there are also people again, and there where people are, is also life. Dune fields turn to fruitful soil and large floodplains for the rainy season. On the way to Saint Louis the desert turns to savanna.
Finish They’ve made it, they are at the finish line at the Lac Rose. Each person finds his own challenge within this adventure. One thing is sure, for all participants just crossing the finish line is a win. However, the paths over the line have different purposes. Some of them struggle for the win and other want only to experience the desert or fulfill a childhood dream. Through their honest and shared respect for one another they make a way for the next edition of the rally.
