This 1959 Porsche 356A is one of 1,330 Convertible D models built during a single-year production run and was distributed new in the US by Hoffman Motor Car Co. of New York. A restoration was carried out between 1989 and 1990 and included a repaint, re-plating the chrome trim, undercoating the chassis, reupholstering the interior, and replacing the transaxle case and convertible top. The car subsequently received another repaint in its factory Meissen Blue during previous ownership in 2009. Equipment includes Speedster-style seats, a rear luggage rack, headlight stone guards, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. The numbers-matching 1.6L flat-four was rebuilt in 2012, and the selling dealer performed an oil change in preparation for the sale. This Convertible D is now offered as part of Mohr Imports’ Monterey Car Week Collection. The sale includes a tool kit, jack, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, copy of the Kardex, custom luggage, spare seats, factory literature, and a clean Montana title.

The Convertible D was introduced to replace the Speedster and included amenities that the outgoing model lacked, such as roll-up side windows and standard windshield washers. Coachwork for all 1,330 cars was provided by Karosseriewerke Drauz of Heilbronn, Germany, and this example was repainted in its factory shade of Meissen Blue (5703) in 2009. Close-up photos of the body and trim can be viewed in the gallery. Ventilated 15 steel wheels feature polished hubcaps and wear 165/80 Classic All-Season Radial tires. The soft top on a Convertible D differs from a Speedster top in order to accommodate a taller windscreen and glass side windows. It also incorporates a larger rear window and rain gutters. A full tonneau cover is included in the sale. The interior was reupholstered during previous ownership and features tan carpets, a body-color dash fascia, and tan Speedster-style seats with light blue tartan cloth inserts. Amenities include door pockets and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. A pair of factory-style front seats are included in the sale and can be viewed in the gallery.

Case stamping *73931* can be seen above and matches the engine number shown on the Porsche CoA. The four-speed manual transaxle was fitted with a new case in 1989 and is pictured above. The car is equipped with torsion bars front and rear, along with finned drum brakes at all four corners.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames green VDO instrumentation, including a 6k-rpm tachometer, 120-mph speedometer, and combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 33k miles, fewer than 1k of which were added by the selling dealer.

A set of custom luggage, matched to the car’s interior, is included in the sale. The large case mounts on a body-color luggage rack, which is attached to the rear decklid grille and is shown up close in the gallery.

The 1.6-liter Type 616/1 flat-four was rebuilt in 2012 by Fred Busche at Specialists in Santa Monica, California, after a failure occurred en route to a vintage rally in Arizona.

The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the production completion date, along with the original colors and powertrain numbers. A copy of the Kardex is included in the sale and can be viewed in the gallery.

The sale includes a tonneau cover, side curtains, a tool kit, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a 100M Registry Certificate of Membership, refurbishment documentation, and a clean California title. The 100M was introduced in 1955 as a higher-performance version of the Austin-Healey BN2. The model featured larger carburetors and a high-lift camshaft, as well as high-compression pistons and a number of other alterations that increased engine output from 90 to 110 horsepower. It was also equipped with an upgraded anti-roll bar and a louvered bonnet secured by leather straps. Just 640 examples of the 100M were produced in 1955 and 1956 at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham, England. This car was delivered new finished in a Healey Blue and Ivory White duotone scheme, and was repainted in its original colors during the 1997 restoration. Close-up photos of the body panels, shut lines, brightwork, and lenses can be viewed in the gallery. Chrome 72-spoke Borrani wheels measure 15” in diameter and are secured with two-ear knock-offs. They were reportedly installed in 1997 and wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The navy blue soft top and side curtains are depicted above, and photos of the included tonneau cover can be viewed in the gallery. The cabin was originally trimmed in blue and was reupholstered during the restoration. A plaque provided by the 100M Registry identifies the car as a factory-built example, and additional features include a rake-adjustable windshield, chrome emergency brake and passenger grab handles, and a fire extinguisher. The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel features a factory-style horn

button and turn signal switch. Smiths instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, as well as gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles, approximately 200 of which were added by the selling dealer. The factory 2,660cc inline-four was replaced in 1997 with an engine that was reportedly sourced from another 100M. Additional modifications include a Weslake cylinder head and a 12-volt electrical conversion. The engine wears a tag indicating that it is the original unit, though this is not the case. A photo of the tag from the replacement engine is included in the gallery. The four-speed manual gearbox and overdrive unit are pictured above, along with the side-exit exhaust system and independent front suspension. Rear suspension is provided by semi-elliptical leaf springs and a Panhard rod, while braking is from Girling hydraulic drums all around. This 2004 Ferrari 360 Spider was first registered in California and spent time in Virginia and Massachusetts before returning to California upon the current owner’s acquisition in September 2015. It shows 21k miles and is finished in Titanium Gray over a blue leather interior. Power is from a 3.6-liter V8 paired with a six-speed F1 sequential gearbox, and features include a blue convertible top, polished aftermarket wheels, a Challenge-style rear grille, Daytona-style seats, and Scuderia fender shields. Service in 2016 is said to include a rebuild of the water pump and alternator as well as the replacement of the timing belts and tensioner bearings, the drive belts, and the brake pads. This 360 Spider is now offered on dealer consignment as part of the Mohr Monterey Car Week Collection with factory books, service records, a tool kit, a fitted car cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title. The aluminum bodywork was designed by Pininfarina and is finished in Grigio Titanio. Exterior equipment includes a Challenge-style rear grille along with Scuderia Ferrari fender shields. The selling dealer states that the rear bumper has been repainted, and close-up photos of the finish, trim, and lenses can be viewed in the gallery. Aftermarket 19” wheels feature yellow prancing-horse center caps and wear a mixed set of 235/35 front and 305/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and Pilot Super Sport tires. Braking is provided by red Ferrari-branded calipers and crossdrilled rotors at all four corners, and the pads and fluid were reportedly replaced in August 2016. The blue convertible top was serviced in March 2018 and is shown in its raised position above.

The cockpit is upholstered in navy blue leather with matching carpets. Amenities include power-adjustable Daytona-style seats, automatic climate control, and a Ferrari stereo with a remote-mounted CD changer. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters and frames a central 10k-rpm tachometer, a 220-mph speedometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The digital odometer shows 21k miles, approximately 3k of which were added by the current owner. The fuel-level float was reportedly replaced in March 2018. The 3.6-liter Tipo F131 V8 features a flat-plane crankshaft and titanium connecting rods and produced 395 horsepower when new. The selling dealer states that the fuel pump was replaced in 2015 and that service in 2016 included a coolant flush, rebuilding the water pump and alternator, and replacing the drive belts, the timing belts, and tensioner bearings. Power is sent to the rear wheels through Ferrari’s six-speed F1 sequential gearbox. Suspension is independent all around, and additional underside photos can be viewed in the gallery. The July 2020 Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage and shows registration history in California, Virginia, and Massachusetts. There is currently a lien on the car, and the current owner’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the new owner.
