John Hood Launches Motorpoint 21st Birthday Celebration

Motorpoint turns 21! We’re celebrating 21 years by giving away a car. We officially opened the doors to our first branch in Derby on 28th April 1998. In that time, just imagine how many keys we’ve handed out to customers, how many coffees we’ve offered and how many loyal customers we’ve gained. We marked our anniversary by launching a competition, with the winner driving away in a top of the range 68-reg Smart Forfour. We asked entrants to visit their nearest Motorpoint branch between 5th and 22nd April to search for one of the Motorpoint keys hidden on our cars. Once found, they had to upload a photo of themselves with the key onto either their Facebook or Instagram page with the hashtag #KeyForTheCar – as well as complete an entry form at the site. The winners were then announced on Facebook Live on Sunday 28th April.

And, for those that didn’t win the car, there was a wide choice of other prizes available to celebrate Motorpoint’s birthday including hotel vouchers, spa breaks, Amazon and Love2Shop vouchers together with the opportunity to win use of the Motorpoint Suite for a show at either the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff or the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham during 2019. We had 12 in total so every site won a prize! “We wanted to celebrate our 21st birthday in style, which is why we decided to give away a Smart Forfour to the winner of our #KeyForTheCar competition. One lucky visitor to Motorpoint has won a fantastic nearly new car.”

Director’s Sleep Out for Charity raises £6,000 The Pride of Pride Park A four-strong team from our headquarters in Derby braved sub-zero temperatures to take part in the Stadium Sleep Out event outside Pride Park, home of Derby County Football Club. Over £6,000 was raised, which will be used to support Rams in Kenya, a flagship programme at the Trust which this year will make its eighth trip to the slums of Nakuru, Kenya to support the building of facilities, which will help children who live in absolute poverty. It will also help vulnerable individuals in Derby who are at risk of becoming homeless through substance and alcohol misuse, or those who are recovering from addiction and are leaning on the support of the Derby County Community Trust and other charities to overcome difficult times in their lives.

We really can’t thank people enough for their generosity. It’s hugely appreciated. It was very humbling for us all sleeping rough for the night but what made the cold that much more bearable was being able to make a difference to those less fortunate and get more people off the streets and into permanent accommodation. The Director’s Box A message from Mark Whilst our Politicians continue to make the economic climate more challenging than we would like our performance in Q4 has been a great start to the calendar year. We have launched some changes to processes with more planned in the coming months as we continue to make buying a car from Motorpoint as quick and easy as possible for our customers and you, our valued team. I was delighted that we recently retained our place in the Best Companies Top 100 list, our fifth consecutive year – your feedback is so important to us so please keep it coming! Our NPS also continues to be strong and that is something each of you should be proud of as very few companies achieve such high scores. The car market in the UK continues to struggle and we can judge our own performance on how much we are growing our market share – if the market is smaller then we need to take share from the competition which was a key reason we reduced our finance rate to 9.9% and launched our Price Pledge in November. Many of these changes and developments originate from you and it is key to our success that all of you continue to make suggestions on how we can improve from Good to Great. Let’s continue our current form into the new Financial Year!

Payroll Giving

What is Payroll Giving? Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme which allows anyone who receives their pay through payroll to give regularly and on a tax free basis to the charities and good causes of their choice.

How does it work? Payroll Giving donations are deducted via payroll before tax and you can change your chosen charity and the amount at any time. There is a 25p admin fee per donation, but Motorpoint will pay that!

Payroll Giving was launched to Team Members on Best Companies Day, there will also be Payroll Giving specialists attending our All Hands meetings. Cat Moseley, HR Director

Why are we introducing it? The decision to introduce Payroll Giving came directly from listening to the Best Companies bHeard survey 2018. Many employees wanted to be able to make a big impact with little sacrifice (such as having to take days out of the business). Our team talked and we listened!

Have a story to tell? We’re all ears...

A very special football match for Jason Brown Jason Brown has worked for Motorpoint for 19 years, helping customers as they buy their car and always with the best service possible. He also has a nerve wasting degenerative condition called Dejerine Sottas Syndrome. This affects the nerves furthest away from the brain, causing muscle wastage in both lower arms and legs. He has been fiercely independent most of his life but in recent years Jason’s condition has deteriorated and he has have become increasingly reliant on a wheelchair and the support of those around him. Jason has been a huge asset to Motorpoint since he joined us thanks to his energy, enthusiasm and effort to make a difference to our customers. To ensure he enjoys the quality of life that many of us take for granted, he requires a new, purpose-built wheelchair.

So, to raise funds to purchase this new, specially-adapted wheelchair, the Motorpoint team is organising a special charity football match at Peterborough United. Staff are aiming to raise £4,000 from the game, with Motorpoint agreeing to match the other £4,000 necessary to purchase the £8,000 wheelchair, complete with a built-in motorised triride, from Bromakin. “I really can’t thank the team at Motorpoint for all their support. I currently have a fold away wheelchair that is difficult to manoeuvre and increases my reliance on others. This new wheelchair will enable me to play a much more active part in family life and do some of the things that haven’t been possible of late.” Jason Brown

We want to make sure that all the activity on your site gets shouted about. Not just because a lot of hard work has gone into reaching those goals across the business but also so that everyone else can see what is achievable. We want to motivate, spark inspiration and hear your ideas. Get in touch with the marketing team to feature your story or just to tell us what you think has gone well in your branch lately. To submit something, just email marketing@motorpoint.co.uk

Staff will be travelling from all four corners of the country to the ABAX Stadium on Wednesday 29th May to play the game and we wish them all the best of luck.

The fundraising is going very well but if anyone is feeling generous and would like to make a donation it would he hugely appreciated by Jason and his family: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/jason-brown-fundraiser
