Thirty minutes of wheel-time in the CLS55 AMG was all it took to understand that this car means all business. With a 5.5Ltr 470hp engine roaring, this benz was all that a businessman turned city cruiser turned party animals turned car maniac needs. It has power as well as luxury. It can fit in any mood, whether you feeling all classy or if you feeling like pushing it. So exactly what were thinking when they made a 2-ton sedan with so much power. Were they trying to compete with a Ferrari or a Porsche? Answer is not really. They wanted there clientele to have a feeling of driving a sports car combined with a luxury family vehicle. The CLS55 rockets off the line, reaching 100kmh in only 4.8 seconds The Interior already resemble a designers furniture. Once you inside the, the leather trim wraps around thickly bolstered sport seats; they're 10-way adjustable, heated, and offer three-way memory. To add the icing on the cake a matte-finished wood trim can be noticed too. The trend toward more natural-looking wood is spreading, and we're all for it, as it brings out the material's grain and keeps it from looking like well-rendered plastic. A six-stacker CD cleverly hidden behind the ac control panel and high beams that can pin Skippy at several hundred metres. Automatic air, an alarm, metallic paint, cruise control with speed limiter, a sunroof and DVD navigation/ player/TV tuner are also standard. Long distances in the power-adjustable AMG driver's chair are an absolute pleasure. The same goes for the back stalls, which are comfortable and supportive for two. You have to duck and weave under the low roof to manoeuvre your body and feet into the car but, once you're in there, space (with headroom up to 180cm or so) and comfort are superior to any two-door coupe I can think of.

So whether you are driving or being driven, the Benz means pure luxury. It gives out a message to any passer by. The demi-coupe shape must do a good job at wind cheating, the shape may seem off balance but its all aero dynamic. Just goes to show what can be achieved by fine-tuning the chassis. The key to the CLS’s more fluent handling is the 10 per cent quicker steering rack fitted to all variants. For the CLS, AMG stiffened the rack’s mounting bushes to add further precision to the helm. Mercedes’ Airmatic suspension is standard on the CLS55, the ride height set 10mm lower. To further emphasise the low-slung coupé-like styling, the cars 20” lorinser rims bulge out to fill every millimetre of the wheelarches. AMG’s engineers also played with the front dampers, but left the spring rates and rear dampers alone, although the rear suspension is now mostly steel (rather than alloy), and driveshafts and prop shaft reinforced to cope with the added torque. Like all Mercedes AMG models, the CLS55's high-speed stability is rock solid. You couldn't ask for more from a performance powertrain; there's punch everywhere, and the transmission always seems to be in the right gear at the right time. There's only one transmission available--or necessary: an excellent five-speed automatic that gets AMG-spec SpeedShift programming. This trans features Drive, Sport, and manual modes--the last controlled via the console shifter or paddles on the steering wheel--and higher shift points. All in all an amazing high performance, high speed car. Don’t let the weight issue fool you. The launch in this thing is a site to see.

Automotive gossips and news from the automotive world

Bentley's new boss confirms SUV back to drawing board Bentley's new chairman and CEO, Dr Wolfgang Schreiber confirmed that the EXP 9F - the controversial SUV shown at the 2012 Geneva motor show - would be heavily redesigned before going on sale. Schreiber said he understood the thinking behind the EXP 9F but suggested the production SUV shouldn't so closely follow the Range Rover recipe. 'I think that was one approach but another one could be to look at our own styling features on our existing cars. We have very successful styling on the Mulsanne and Continental - perhaps our customers would prefer a real Bentley SUV to have a more Bentley look.' He intimated that the car had been too focused on the Chinese market. 'We would not be doing enough if we only looked at the Range Rover for inspiration.' Bentley says it has 2500 expressions of interest for an SUV. A decision to greenlight the project is due by the end of 2012.

Michael Schumacher, F1′s winningest driver, retirement plans Michael Schumacher announced that he will retire from Formula 1 by the end of the year. This marks one of those rare moments when history clearly walks into view. While his recent career with the Mercedes team has been a disappointment at best -- scoring only one podium finish in three years of racing -- the Schumacher that won nine F1 titles and 91 races between 1991 and 2006 ranks among the greatest careers by any race driver, ever. In his glory years, Schumacher practiced a ruthless competitiveness that pushed the boundaries even by the wild standards of F1 racing; crashing on purpose, blocking and many other tricks that drew him a sizable crowd of detractors. But Schumacher had the raw driving talent to always make him a threat, especially when the track grew wet. In his announcement below, you can hear the sense of a 43-year-old man who knows just how much is left in his tank.

Volkswagen Becomes World’s Largest Auto Manufacturer Volkswagen has overtaken Toyota to become the world’s largest auto manufacturer in the world. It was already Europe’s largest car manufacturer and now it has surpassed Toyota Motor Corp in worldwide production of units. Volkswagen had initially projected this target to be achieved by the year 2018 but has now surpassed initial project in 2009 itself. In the first 9 months of the year, VW Group’s sales are up by 34 percent compared to last year. Toyota now ranks second worldwide and Ford holds the third position of the world’s largest auto makers. According to the production figures, the VW Group manufactured 4.4 million units in the first nine months of 2009 while Toyota’s produced 4 million. Ford was listed as the world’s third largest manufacturer with 3.7 million units followed by General Motors at production of 3.6 million units worldwide.

Lamborghini gives the aging Gallardo a shot of botox Lamborghini lifted the tarp of its mildly retooled Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 at the Paris Motor Show and the jaded press corps barely gasped at all. It was bright yellow and looked like an angry hornet from the future. A redesigned front end includes new triangular panels, and the back end has grown wider. Also available are fresh trim options, which weren't on display, polished aluminum wheels, and a new contrasting paint package. We assume that it will also drive very fast, just as before. The Gallardo remains, to use professional auto-industry terms, freaking ridiculous and super-awesome.

THE NEW VW AMAROK It’s high, wide and imposing, with the squared off lines giving the body a very tough look. One look at the Amarok and you will notice Volkswagen were looking at combining luxury pickup with the ultimate work horse. Volkswagen has been manufacturing utility vehicles for 27 years, but the launch of the Amarok is especially significant since its its first double cabin pickup. In the Inuit language of the Eskimo people, Amarok means WOLF. The name was carefully selected because wolf or mbweha in Swahili symbolizes ultimate strength and endurance. The Amarok is sold only as a double-cab five-seater for now – a single-cab model will follow later and it stands out with its high-grade materials and solid build quality. As the styling suggests, this car is virtually unstoppable away from the beaten track. They come in two options. The Highline which is 2.0Ltr BiTurbo Diesel Engine or the Trendline which is a 2.0Ltr Turbo Diesel Engine. They also come in rear wheel and 4WD. All feature four-wheel drive, to ensure the car can take the roughest terrain in its stride. One might think that the massive dimensions will make parking a challenge, but once you've get used to the vehicle from behind the wheel, the Amarok is a great deal of fun. The interior of the Amarok is a good balance of classy and practical, it may not be all that but still manages to look standard. The interior is very clean, but still manages to add a slight touch of premium in the trim and equipment, with intuitive controls from big chunky buttons.. But there are plenty of storage spaces around the cabin, including underseat bins and massive door pockets. There’s also enough space between shifter and centre console bin to look at mounting a small laptop. You have to applaud three 12v outlets in cabin and another in the load bin, plus a light back there no more fumbling around in the dark. Leather Interior and seating makes the Amarok enjoyable to drive whether you are cruising in oysterbay or serious off roading at pugu hills. The interior environment will change your perception of this great pick up. As for the Panel a lot of options are available. CD player or a DVD player can be arranged for on client request. It does, however, boast Bluetooth connectivity for phones, as well as controls on the steering wheel. The rear of the Amarok is comfortable and roomy, but as is the case with most pickups, getting in and out is tough, since the wide front doors necessitate the use of smaller ones at the back, still, the Amarok can easily transport four adults over long distances. Yes, its cabin lacks a few nice-to-haves, but it is wonderfully comfortable and serene. Driving a five-metre-long pick-up takes some getting used to and parking the Amarok is a real challenge. Visibility is great, though, and all the switches on the dash work with precision. But while the diesel engine has decent low-down torque for strong off-road ability, the two-tonne plus kerbweight hampers acceleration off the line. But overall this is a solid blend of a tough workhorse and some creature comforts that make working life a bit more bearable.
