NEW RESTAURANT OPENINGS For motorbike enthusiasts, the new Ducati Café is revved up and raring to go at Dubai Mall, with plenty of coffee and comestibles from the Italian manufacturer on display. Popular Singaporean bakery chain, Roti Mum, has also opened its first branch in the UAE in Dubai Mall, pan-Asian chain Shang Thai has thrown open its doors on Sheikh Zayed Road, Festival City is readying itself to open Dubai’s fourth outlet of local mainstay Trader Vic’s in the coming months and Kiza at The Lodge has brought a taste of Africa to Oud Metha. Finally, if you live in or around Business Bay and you’re planning to dine on some takeaway pizza this summer, it is worth trying out the new Slice Gourmet restaurant that is promising, rather menacingly, to “slice up your life”…

TESTED After our takeaway test a few months back, our stomachs are well aware that Abu Dhabi is stuffed with pizza palaces. New kid on the piazza, Pizzeria Olivella, leaves its dough to rise for 48 hours, creating a lighter pizza than its stodgy rivals, with whole-wheat and gluten-free options also available. The homely restaurant also boasts an authentic wood-burning oven. We can definitely vouch for the Fiorentina (Dhs35), a crispy tastebud-pleaser chock full of mushrooms, spinach, red onions, Gorgonzola and a runny egg. Delivery is also available. Jumeirah Lakes Towers is on the rise and as such is constantly full of surprises. One of those is the recently opened organic fruit and vegetable shop Blue People Green Planet, hidden amongst the tall buildings.
