Vega School of Brand Leadership Mpho Creative Moshikaro Development 3 Bachelor of Arts in Creative Brand Introduction Communications 15012999 CRDE7312 Based on our chosen themes, concepts, and proposed creative outputs during the previous brief, which was aimed at proposing, pitching and prototyping, we are now required to construct/manufacture craft and activate/exhibit our concepts.

The groundwork for this project has been completed, what’s left is for the work to manifest. Using my research and prototypes I will construct my concept.

My project is based on Fatherhood, which is a huge issue in South Africa which has become a generational issue. I grew up being raised by my mother and I have

come to realize that she and my grandmother both were raised in households where fathers were absent. I do not want to be like their fathers nor like my father. I want to create a change in my family and other families by empowering young men to seek to become better men and fathers. This sparked the desire to question what masculinity is and what fatherhood really meant. I have questioned masculinity for my previous Creative Development on ideologies which I titled

Research, Findings and Insights

For this project I seek to continue the theme by questioning fatherhood and reinforcing it into society by starting with teenagers. According to Pace (2018), “60%

The term fathering means being involved, behaving responsibly as a man and having an influence in child raising decisions (McGee, 2018). I have made the decision to become part of the change of responsibly helping prepare young men become better men while they are still young.

I decided to create illustrations as a form of connecting to teenagers because they are naturally drawn to illustration regardless of platform, whether it is on television, memes, the internet and books because they are more observant than the adult reader. Illustrations make it easier for us to understand the complicated.

Process, Ideation and Concept Development

Based on research conducted I created illustrations that depicted different issues people have. This project will is used as a tool to hone my illustration skills as well as try impact at least one teenage boy while planting a seed in the mind of youngsters to lead a new era of men. I resaerched different artist with different style that I could

These are some of the characteristics they should want to have because many single mothers complain that their partners lacked these characteristics.

These illustrations, Figure 2 to Figure 6 highlight the different ideas. These ideas are then translated onto an online art gallery and a booklet. The online art gallery is a website that is used to showcase the different illustrations/artworks with the purpose of promoting change, it is a platform where others going through the same thing can send in their illustrations.

This is still something I am planning to do going foward. The website is a relevant medium because today’s generation is connected to the internet and it will be easily accessible to them even on their smartphones. I have created a poster (figure 1) that will promote the online platform. On the platform the artworks can be

bought in hopes of using the money to help those in need of support.

The overarching concept of this illustration is “I am not my father because...�. Since this is about changing the mindset of teenagers, this is about teaching them how not to be like their fathers and how they can be better men.

Figure 4 is an illustration on the promiscuous father who takes care of his girlfriend but does not do anything for his children. He is not being an honest man because he is living like he does not have children at all. Figure 5 is a man who grew up without a father and grew up without being a father because of his experience. This has caused depression upon him and needs dealing with. If it

These kind of people need attending to. Figure 6 is a narcistic father who only cares about himself. He is selfish and self-centered. He has the ability to provide for his children but would rather help himself not for the benefit of his child. Being a better man is about being the opposite of these men.

Self-Reflection and Self-critique From doing this project I have learnt that is not easy changing someones life from just illustrations, it needs more than that. Regardless of this I was able to illustarate

in 5 different styles from different artists. I am confident that I did a very good job at creating great illustrations. This project made me think of how else I can come up with a solution that is more effective.
