“En las instalaciones de Jakobsen, grandes bandas de tela o hule de colores se colocan en las paredes y techos de la galería utilizando acero e imanes, creando así figuras geométricas precisas. En ocasiones, la ar tista ilumina estos espacios con luces fluorescentes y filtros de colores, resaltando la naturaleza inextricable de su obra y los espacios que la contienen. Las instalaciones de Jakobsen son reducidas a sus elementos fundamentales, dejando sólo lo necesario y eliminando las distracciones. Este acercamiento tiene su origen en la infancia de la ar tista y en el trabajo de su padre como diseñador, el cual como ella misma dice ‘ha jugado un papel impor tante en forjar mi entendimiento de las formas y cómo éstas nos afectan, así como de los métodos de trabajo con y en contra de los materiales’. La sensibilidad minimalista escandinava no es meramente una preocupación formal para Jakobsen. Mediante la eliminación de distracciones formales, ella también quita cualquier referencia a objetos, eventos o lugares par ticulares. “In Jakobsen’s installations, large bands of coloured fabric or rubber are attached to gallery walls and ceilings using steel and magnets, thus creating precise geometric shapes. At times, she lights these spaces with fluorescent lights and filter gels, heightening the inextricability of the works and the spaces that contain them. Jakobsen’s installations are reduced to their fundamental elements, leaving only what is needed and doing away with distraction. This approach is rooted in the ar tist’s upbringing and her father’s work as a designer, which, as she says, ‘has played an impor tant role in shaping my understanding of how forms affect us, and how to work with and against a material’. The Scandinavian minimalist sensibility is not merely a formal concern for Jakobsen, however. By stripping away formal distractions, she also removes any reference to par ticular things, events or places.
