Dear Residents, The coming of a new year is not only a great time to look ahead to new opportunities and challenges, but to look back on the past year’s accomplishments. Daniel J. Staackmann President

Mark Manno Vice-President

Dan Ashta Treasurer

Georgianne Brunner Commissioner

This year the District had important accomplishments and successes. The Board is pleased to announce that the Morton Grove Park District now ranks with the select few park districts, special recreation associations, and forest preserves in Illinois that currently hold the honor of “Distinguished Agency” from the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association. In order to achieve this distinction, our Park District had to meet the highest standards in policies, board practices, finance, facilities, and staffing. It was a two-year process of reviewing and documenting all aspects of our District. In conjunction with this review, the Park Board and Staff has already taken steps to improve communication and marketing with new website capabilities and program registration software to better serve our residents. My heartfelt thanks go to the Board and Staff for their tremendous efforts toward this achievement and for making our Park District among the best for our community.

A five-member* Board of Commissioners governs the Morton Grove Park District. The Board serves without compensation for a six-year term and is directly responsible to the electorate. Professional staff, led by the Executive Director, handles day-today operations. The Morton Grove Board of Park Commissioners welcomes citizens at all their meetings. All meetings are held at the Prairie View Community Center, 6834 Dempster St. Individuals needing special assistance should call one (1) week in advance (847) 965-1200 so that arrangements can be made. Scheduled meetings are: Committee of the Whole, first Wednesday of the Month @ 6:30 pm Park District Board Meeting: Third Wednesday of the Month @ 6:30 pm This schedule is subject to change. For more information, call (847) 965-1200 or visit mortongroveparks.com *CURRENTLY A FOUR-MEMBER BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS LOOKING TO FILL IMMEDIATELY. FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO mortongroveparks.com

Additionally, the Park District Board of Commissioners recently conducted a first review of the recently completed Strategic Plan at the October Park Board meeting. This plan is the tool that will guide our Park District for the next five years. Information on the Strategic Plan will be available on the Morton Grove Park District website and upon request at Prairie View Community Center. The Park Board would like to thank the residents and staff who provided input, collected data, and developed the plan. We were all saddened by the passing of long-time Park Commissioner Eileen Coursey. Eileen was the longest serving Park Commissioner in our Park District history, serving on the board since 1977. The Park District board and staff extend their condolences to the Coursey family and our sincere gratitude for her years of service. Have a safe and happy holiday season

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The Morton Grove Historical Society needs your help! We want to preserve our village’s iconic Doughboy Statue. It was first shared with the community by the Women’s War Working Circle in 1921 in honor of the Morton Grove soldiers who fought in World War One. The Doughboy is turning 95 years old this year and is starting to show his age. Major repairs are necessary on the plinth to keep him standing well into the next century. Just like any major renovation, we won’t know the complete costs until after we get the process underway. We also want to build up the fund for any future repairs and renovations too! Call (847) 965-0203 for more information.

About Us MD The Historical Museum is located at 6240 Dempster Street The Education Center is located at 6148 Dempster Street in Morton Grove. Phone: (847) 965-0203 The Historical Museum opened to the public in 1986, and the Education Center in 2008.
