The services we provide are truly diverse. These range from advising Councils on projects forming part of the Scottish Government’s £1.8 billion “Schools for the Future” programme to defending court appeals by parents whose choice of school for their child has been refused. In the Further/Higher Education sector a large specialist team advised on the only merger between Further and Higher education institutions which involved unique regulatory and governance issues. We act for the SRUC, an institution of higher education on a full service basis and a leading university on specific employment law issues. We have also been advising on a number of university related commercialisation programmes in respect to intellectual property, commercial contracts and corporate matters. We created our Giving Something Back forum to provide a focal point for our community activities. Here you’ll find partners and staff working together in support of charities, the environment and the wider community. Charities We provide support to a number of charities in a variety of ways. We donate money and get actively involved in fundraising through various events and activities. We also offer legal advice to some charities. Each year our employees select a principal charity for the year. In 2019, we’re delighted to be working with Social Bite. The Morton Fraser Charitable Trust was established in 1985 to allow people owning or inheriting assets which they did not wish to retain but which would be difficult to realise the opportunity to donate them to charity. Donations are made from the Trust annually to charities whose main purpose is one of the following: care of the elderly, benefit of young persons, medical research or the provision of education. Pro Bono Activities Our pro bono work supports a range of activities and institutions. From providing legal advice to the third sector, individuals sitting on a Board, or getting involved in community causes and events, our people provide a helping hand to those people and places that need it. We also support the Citizens’ Advice Bureau with solicitor advisors, and provide meeting facilities to charity clients.
