Through working with these clients we have gained invaluable experience across the firm of what makes Government a unique client, with quite distinct requirements to other public bodies. We have tailored our service to meet these requirements. Our advice will always take into account the political sensitivities that may arise in individual cases. We understand the need to ensure that a consistent approach is taken to overarching policies, and work hard to safeguard our clients’ reputations. Our entire team has gained invaluable insight into working with our Government clients. We know their teams, the relevant legislation and how they like to work. With increasing constraints on the public purse, we are keen to add value. We regularly provide free ad hoc advice, working collaboratively with Government clients as their “colleague down the corridor” and are happy to offer a view where detailed advice is not required.

OUR COMMUNITY #MFOOTPRINT WORKING TOGETHER, TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE.
We’re committed to ensuring we attain our business objectives by operating and behaving in ways that benefit our employees, the community and the wider environment. We created our Giving Something Back forum to provide a focal point for our community activities. Here you’ll find partners and staff working together in support of charities, the environment and the wider community. Charities We provide support to a number of charities in a variety of ways. We donate money and get actively involved in fundraising through various events and activities. We also offer legal advice to some charities. Each year our employees select a principal charity for the year. In 2019, we’re delighted to be working with Social Bite. The Morton Fraser Charitable Trust was established in 1985 to allow people owning or inheriting assets which they did not wish to retain but which would be difficult to realise the opportunity to donate them to charity. Donations are made from the Trust annually to charities whose main purpose is one of the following: care of the elderly, benefit of young persons, medical research or the provision of education. Pro Bono Activities Our pro bono work supports a range of activities and institutions. From providing legal advice to the third sector, individuals sitting on a Board, or getting involved in community causes and events, our people provide a helping hand to those people and places that need it. We also support the Citizens’ Advice Bureau with solicitor advisors, and provide meeting facilities to charity clients.
Diversity and Inclusion We have robust policies, excellent role models and a supportive culture that helps deliver inclusion, diversity and equality. We consider all forms of discrimination to be unacceptable and strive to be an inclusive organisation where every individual is treated with respect and dignity. We view a diverse workforce as a positive contribution to our business. Environment We make every effort to limit the environmental impact of our business and we have a range of initiatives in place to achieve this, such as providing extensive recycling facilities, implementing paperlight working procedures, and encouraging the use of walking, cycling, and public transport for both commuting and business trips. Social Mobility and Education Celebrating diversity, and operating in an inclusive manner are core elements to ensuring we remain a successful firm. We know that for our business to thrive and for us to reach our ambitions, we depend on having diverse talent with a range of backgrounds, skills and capabilities. We view diversity as one of the key enablers that helps our business to grow and our values, purpose and standards set the conditions for us to respect the unique contribution each person brings. Many of our lawyers are involved in mentoring those who seek to be the best they can be. We also support a number of educational institutions through tutoring, lecturing and examining. Fair Pay Consistent with creating a ‘great place to work’ we pay all of our employees the ‘living wage’ as a minimum. We have a strong commitment to developing Scotland’s Young Workforce and have recruited 10 apprentices across a range of disciplines over the last 12 months (representing approximately 4% of our workforce). Together with our approach to the recruitment and development of talent from as wide a base as possible we believe our workforce is beginning to reflect the population we serve. .
