homeless assistance shelter okc, ok.
Oklahoma City Homeless Assistance Shelter will serve as a transitional housing resource that caters specifically to homeless families. It’s downtown location will be extremely accessible for those who are seeking their services. Through the use of bridging the shelter units and the exterior communal spaces, the fusion of contextual and modern materials create a strong street presence replicating that of historic Bricktown. Three main elements that have been carefully chosen to help guide me through the process of design are: refuge, communication, and revitalization.

Muelle Panamericano undertakes a transformation from an industrial site and traffic junction towards being the city’s cultural and social center. The terminal design has emerged out of the desire to extend the surrounding city onto the water and the practical needs for accessibility, safety and programmatic demand. The aquarium realizes the transition from land to water as a terraced landscape. Muelle Panamericano is a cruise ship terminal and aquarium complex nestled in the Bay of San Juan. One of the main challenges of this project was to connect Old San Juan and New San Juan architecturally, visually, and culturally. My objective is to make the Aquarium to stand as a sculptural piece. It is designed to hover over the land by structural supports and connect to the adjacent cruise terminal. With this connection in place it makes accommodations for a new public urban space. It seemlessly draws the urban space of Muelle Panamericano into the heart of the project via the waters edge and back toward the city of San Juan. Providing access to a number of important public spaces and programs; contributing to a dramatic entry sequence to the port facilities. This gives a unique experience to aquarium visitors, elevator visitors and city dwellers alike.

San Patricio Plaza is a high end shopping center in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The project objective was to produce a new master plan for the entire San Patricio area and to select one lot on the plan to design your assigned function. The master plan was created with an entire studio effort. One of the major points that is incorporated into the plan was the necessity to make it pedestrian dominant. All vehicular circulation was to be on the periphery of the site. Three points of sustainability had to be incorporated into the plan, such as, rain water collection, passive air ventilation, reclaimed materials, recycling, etc. I was assigned and automobile museum and Fiat 500 dealership. The program and cultural analysis were developed to explain how the design will impact the surrounding context. The exterior represented a “uni-body facade. The sleek exterior has everything connected and flowing. The interior is smooth and luxurious with easy transitional points. The engine will be represented by the display spaces, which give the building purpose.

sketches _ journaling
Sketches and journal entries represent a few of my architectural and cultural experiences abroad. I spent four weeks in France attending lectures and seminars on a personal exploration of Paris, Versailles, Provence, Gordes, Normandy, Lyon, Poissy, Le Mont-St-Michel, etc. Architecture needs to be experienced in order to imagine the greater possibilities. I moved to Rome, Italy. I spent 3 weeks exploring religious architecture as well as sculptures and mosaics of the great architects. Additionally, I travelled to Ostia Antica, Pompeii, Capri, Sorrento, Naples, Florence, etc. To finish up my European tour I traveled to England where I spent the remaining two weeks analyzing contemporary versus historic architecture. London was an extraordinary place to further my studies. Their urban fabric undulates between the old and the new flawlessly. This experience emphasized sketching, visual analysis, and cultural approaches to the design of cities and buildings.

“Photography is only a tool, a vehicle, for expressing or transmitting a passion in something else. -David Hum Images I captured express the passion I felt for that scene, the object, or the moment in time. When others are viewing my work, they will known in part who I am as a person. Photographs are visual artwork. They take something ordinary and elevate it to a position of honor. Photography connects people through interests, locations, and cultures. It spans time and distance as a bridge between worlds. These photographs are taken from some of my favorite locations in Europe. These cultural experiences really triggered my thoughts of the architectural fabric. It brought design into a much larger picture, redefining beauty.
“Fill a space in a beautiful way.” -Georgia O’Keeffe Gallery shows are an integral component of design. Displaying your work takes a lot of confidence and passion. When your work is exhibited in a show, either solo or group, you’ve got to take full advantage of the opportunity. The sensation of suddenly being out of the studio and into the art world can be intimidating however, the knowledge you acquire talking about your project to the curious onlookers, critiquing staff and influential art communitarians in astounding.

process _ study models
Study models are necessary! We go through a meditative process in order to explore a thought. Sometimes it is just the expression of movement and color that leaves a lasting impression. When studying in a conceptual mode, anything can inform a study model. Whether a crumbled piece of paper, straws, cardboard, the flight path of a bird or just a simple piece of clay. The key is to look at your model with an inquisitive eye. There is truly nothing like the development of a simple idea as it transitions into a work of art.
