LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

O

ne of the great things that continue to make life interesting is the changing seasons. The bare branches of winter blooming into radiant spring blossoms, the sticky summer air turning into a crisp autumn breeze, and the crunching of leaves beneath our feet transforming into lush feilds of cystal white snow; these constant changes are the things that keep day to day life from being monotonous and mundane. And just as Diana Vreeland said herself, “fashion is apart of the daily air and it changes all the time.” This means that while the lush green leaves transform into brilliant jewel tones, consumers begin to trade in their bikinis for concealing overcoats. Fashion is anything but mundane and the every changing cycle of fashion with the seasons keeps it coninuously astounding. However, fashion does not soley change due to the weather. Fashion changes along side every driving force including culture and society. As Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Therefore, with this edition of the Tobe Report, I will not only be bringing you the upcoming fashion trends of Fall 14/16, but I will also be bringing to you a sense of a revolution in culture that will be taking place. Because fashion is not simply clothes, it is both a reflection and an influence on the world around us. -Morgan Davis

volt路age noun an electromotive force or potential difference expressed in volts. VOLTAGE is a trend inspired by the world which is engulfed and dependant on electricity and technology. Nights are no longer a time for rest and peace. Instead, the night sky is flooded by the light pollution of our own isomnia. Our lust for continuous entertainment and distractions from the world around us are rapidily begining to control our lives without even realizing it. This trend focuses on harsh lines, androgynous silhouettes, and bold accents. This color story focuses on the deep midnight blues of the night sky and the bright juxtaposition of colors that clutter it.

As opposed to focusing on the digital and supperfial universe like VOLTAGE does, this trend takes a look at society in a completely different way. This trend is based off of the need in society to connect with one another face to face instead of through a computer screen. This trend focuses on natural textiles and oversized silhouettes. The color story is inspired by all things earthly and that make human. Inspiration is drawn from the earth itself, architecture, and other art forms.

Similar to TERRESTRIAL, this trend focuses on the natural and on the things in life that we as a culture are starting to let slip out of our fingers. This trend focuses on both soft and luxurious textures. The color story for this trend focuses on rich colors found in nature. Inspiration for these colors come from the little things in life, such as the jewel tones of the leaves changing in the fall, or the color of a ripening apple.

Of course not everyone can afford this luxury of being able to drop everything and pick up and leave at the drop of the hat. Therefore, this trend is also very fantasy inspired and draws upon the feelings of a strong lust for something unreachable. This trend focuses on soft and delicated textiles, and feminine silhouettes. The color story for this trend is drawn from the idea of a foggy and hazed idea of a far away land. The colors are very muted and dull.

It is based off of society’s developing understanding of how technology is slowly enveloping us. Consumers are begining to move away from the digital and put down their smart phones and appretiate the world around them. This trend includes a mixture of natural and synthetic textiles. The color for this trend is primarily muted, neutral colors with pops of neon which symbolize the awakening of society.
