A D O C U M E N TAT I O N O F P R O G R E S S A documentation of progress. The process of Architecture requires site documentation, urban considerations, community integration, which inform a strong site-specific strategy that will improve the space as well as the surrounding area. The intersection between nature and the built form is crucial in the discovery of addressing architectural issues. The process of learni n g i s i n h e r e n t i n t h i s d i s c o v e r y. A single cube uses the geometry of thirds to form three interacting spaces.

5

E N C LO S E D - O P E N Sixteen cubes interact to form a pavillion using the same geometry as the original unit. The four central units are in the “open” orientation. These four are extruded by the height of one unit. Tw e l v e c u b e s i n t h e “ e n c l o s e d ” o r i e n t a t i o n f o r m a p e rimeter which contrasts the open central space.

O P E N - E N C LO S E D A second pavillion is created using the same process but the opposite orientation of the unit. The four central units are oriented to create enclosed space while the perimeter units are arranged in the open orientation.

6

7

E N C LO S E D - O P E N The geometry used for the form of each unit was used to reinforce the structure of the pavillion. IIn other cases, the geometry was extruded to aid in the programmatic function of a reading pavillion.

The ethereal sensation of falling that blurs reality informed the design of the diffuse lighting element. The composition of triangular geometry inspired angular geometry within the architecture.

Each space between two columns represents a retail bay in which commerce is exchanged.

The repetitve system of bays generated the idea for a row of columns to loop through the site.

Isolated Columns

The floor plates were designed by infilling spaces between the columns. The goal was to create spaces that encouraged community interaction between the public and the school as well as between the institution faculty

The architecture seeks to encourage community relatioships through the use of public spaces. Private spaces are separated with only glass.

PROCESS The basic form consists of two shifted rectilinear bars that relate to the neighboring town homes in width, and dialogue with the apartment complex across the street. By shifting the bars, space was created for a garden on the street facing corner as well as a n o u t d o o r r e s t a r e a f a c i n g t h e K a t y Tr a i l .
