How to configure your email client This guide will teach you how to set up your email client. In this guide we will cover both Outlook and Windows Live mail, which are two of the major email clients used these days. You will find an section at the end of this document for common error messages. NB: For the examples given below we have used a sample domain (stmkr.net). Please use your own domain name when setting up your email client. The settings apply to all other email clients, and the configuration should be very similar to the one described in this document. How to configure Outlook 1. Go to 'Tools' > 'Email accounts'

2. Select 'Add a new e-mail account' and click on 'Next'

Email client configuration guide 3. Select either 'POP3' or 'IMAP' (whichever you prefer) and click 'Next'

4. Fill in all the fields as follows: • • • • • •

Your Name: enter your name as you want it to appear in your emails E-mail Address: your email address Incoming mail server: pop.stmkr.net if you are using POP3 / imap.stmkr.net if you are using IMAP ( remember to replace 'stmkr.net' with your own domain name) Outgoing mail server: smtp.stmkr.net (replace 'stmkr.net' with your own domain name) Username: your full email address Password: whichever password you entered when creating the mailbox

NB: make sure that the box 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unticked. Then click on 'More Settings'

Email client configuration guide 6. Go to the 'Outgoing Server' tab and tick the box 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' and select the option 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'

7. Go to the Advanced tab, and under the 'Delivery' section check the box 'Leave a copy of messages on the server'.

NB: Check that the ports as set as follows: • • • •

Incoming server (POP3): 110 untick the box: 'This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) Outgoing server (SMTP): 25 untick the box: 'This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)

Click on 'Ok' and then 'Next'

Email client configuration guide 8. Click on 'Finish' to complete the configuration. You will now be able to send and receive emails using your own mailbox.

Email client configuration guide How to configure Windows Live Mail 1. Click on 'Add email account'

2. Fill in all the fields as follows: • • • •

E-mail address: your email address Password: whichever password you entered when creating the mailbox (tick 'Remember password') Display Name: enter your name as you want it to appear in your emails Tick the box 'Manually configure server settings for e-mail account'

Then click on 'Next'

Email client configuration guide 3. Select either 'POP3' or 'IMAP', whichever you want to use Fill in the fields as follow: • • • • • •

Incoming server: pop.stmkr.net if you are using POP3 / imap.stmkr.net if you are using IMAP (remember to replace 'stmkr.net' with your own domain name) / Port : 110 Untick the box 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' Log on using: Clear text authentication Login ID: your full email address Outgoing server: smtp.stmkr.net (replace 'stmkr.net' with your own domain name) / Port: 25 Tick the box 'My outgoing server requires authentication'

Cick on 'Next'

4. Click on 'Finish' to complete the configuration. You will now be able to send and receive emails using your own mailbox.

Email client configuration guide NB: To synchronise your mailbox if you have already received emails, click on the arrow symbols, then go to 'Sync' > 'Everything' (see below)

Email client configuration guide Common error messages Please note that the error messages in Outlook and Windows Live Mail use the same error codes. •

error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

This error is usually seen when you entered an invalid user name or password for the SMTP server authentication. To solve this problem, refer to the section 6 of the Outlook guide and to the section 2 and 3 of the Windows Live Mail guide.

error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR Authentication failed.'

This error is usually seen when you entered an invalid user name or password for the POP server authentication. To solve this problem, refer to the section 4 of the Outlook guide and to the section 2 and 3 of the Windows Live Mail guide.

error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server Administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

error (0x80042109): 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server Administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Both of these error messages can appear when using an incorrect port, respectively for incoming and outgoing servers. To solve these problems, check the ports as explained in the section 7 of the Outlook guide and in the section 3 of the Winows Live Mail guide. Important: The error (0x80042109) (unable to connect to the (SMTP) e-mail server) can also appear when the ISP blocks the port 25. This is a common problem for many Internet service providers. If you are using the port 25 and are still getting this error message, you will have to contact your ISP in order to find a solution. In most of these cases you will be asked to use their own SMTP server instead of yours.

error (0x800CCC18): 'Your e-mail server rejected your login with Secure Password Authentication. Verify your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'

This error occurs when you try to use Secure Password Authentication (SPA). To solve this problem, simply untick the SPA box, as explained in the section 4 of the Outlook guide. For Windows Live Mail, make sure that you are using 'Clear text authentication' as explained in the section 3 of the Winows Live Mail guide.
