With the U.S. Government broken, NASA hasn't been able to supply us with our usual feast of great shots of stars, galaxies and the Milky Way. So, we turned to a local photographer who happened to catch a cloudless, moonless night last weekend and got these great shots (above). Loren Mooney is a senior program manager at Amazon. night (Oct. 5) when I realized the skies would b e clear and moonless. These images are my first-ever star shots. I shot these with a wide angle lens on a Canon 1D Mark IV and a sturdy tripod. They're ab out 30 seconds each. The star trails image is a stacked set of images totaling ab out 30 minutes.
