words of welcome Dear delegates, chairs, journos, organisers, guests and friends, Special things come in different packages. Some come with a big red ribbon and you can see from far away that there's something extraordinary inside. Some seem a bit unclear at first but end up taking your breath away. There are only very few things that manage to do both – you know that there's something exceptional waiting and you'll, also, end up with an additional 'wow'. The International Summer Forum of EYP Germany in Menden has every bit of potential possible of achieving that double-wow effect. Firstly, it contains elements that are yet unknown in EYP, putting a big red ribbon around it. It is for certain that just by being with us in Menden and taking part in RegioTalks and other innovative parts of the programme, you are being written into the history. It is not often that you can pioneer something in EYP, so you should be hungry to rip that ribbon off! Secondly, there's the potential double-wow effect that hides in every situation is life, be it an EYP session or a bus ride home. You never know what will happen if exactly those people will be put in exactly that place at exactly that time. With EYP, when different ages, nationalities, cultures, opinions and tastes mix, the chances of achieving that effect are just that much more higher and the effect that much more stronger. Somehow it's often something unexpected and new – something you didn't see coming that's, therefore, even more special. Whether this is your first, second or tenth session, I hope you're still open to that second wow-effect. The funny thing about EYP is that just when you think you've seen and done it all... there's more. The trick is not to wait for it but, nevertheless, be ready – that's when it's the most memorable! I'm already thrilled to hear your Menden stories and 'wow' moments and share with you mine! With great excitement, Mari-Liis President of the session
MARI-LIIS ORAV President of the Session
words of welcome Dear Delegates and Officials, Less than two weeks in the future all of us are going to come together in Menden and let us be honest, writing these words of welcome is not a piece of cake for me. It is in fact really difficult to put into words how much I am looking forward to welcome all of you in Menden. On the other hand there is enough organisational work still ahead, that I do not really feel the need to get sentimental already. Every EYP Session is something special. No matter if it is a week or weekend long. What is going to make Menden special? Certainly you are going to make Menden special, but more than usual the city itself will be a key factor for a successful session. Menden is waiting for you and that is more than just a catchy phrase. Make yourself ready for frank exchange. Our accommodation is set in a school (no worries, we have camping beds), located right to a monastery. Make yourself ready for old traditions. During our regioTalks companies will open their doors for you, you will see for yourself. Evaluate for yourself. Get in touch with experts from form all walks of lifeto prove what you believe to be certain. Those globalTalks will broaden your horizon. Be ready to be challenged. Present and celebrate your national traditions at the euroStage, our own concert taking place in the city centre. Menden will be one unique experience if you make it one. Prepare yourself; Get ready and read this Welcome Booklet carefully! Maximilian B. Kiehn Head-Organiser of the Session

accomodation | euroStage Walburgisgymnasium - accomodation The Walburgisgymnasium, which was first opened as a school for girls in 1919 and then after the Second World War reopened again, is a school full of traditions. Headed by nuns, this holy building will be the place for you to sleep, work and of course to party during the session. In the nice and big classrooms, you will spend short nights with few sleep but you will also work and debate in your committee. A beautiful green garden will sweeten your coffee breaks under the summer sun of Menden and if you ever feel like playing hide and seek, the huge building and its surrounding area will be the perfect ground for it.
euroStage| special preparation needed Get ready for a fantastic open air concert in Menden! On Thursday evening every delegation will present their region as a group on stage. You can be as creative as you like! We would love to hear some traditional songs or poems from your region. You could even perform a dance or a short sketch. Additionally, we’ve got some great young bands performing live music to add to the atmosphere. So put on your best dancing shoes and get excited for an evening full of fun performances and music. Don’t forget, the delegation with the best presentation, including their costumes, will receive a special treat. Each delegation will also have a small stand dedicated to their region, so please remember to bring something your region is famous for. It would be great if you could also include some interesting brochures, books and pictures to present to the other delegates and of course to the public of Menden. We can’t wait to see how creative and talented you all are!

regioTalks | globalTalks | welcomeParty regioTalks The RegioTalks and GlobalTalks form the subjective and academic core of the new concept of the International Summer Forum Menden 2012. During the Regional Talks you get an insight view of companies, institutions and associations located in Menden in order to broaden your perspective. How are EU-politics implemented on the regional level? How are the different RegionalTalks-Partners influenced by the European Internal Market and its consequences? Let a bank, a farm, a company developing eco-friendly technologies and more give you the answers! EU and Menden – on the 11th July you are going to see the real connection!
globalTalks During GlobalTalks you will have the opportunity to discuss your results from Committee Work with experts from politics, industry and academia. This is your chance to get a greater insight into your topic, receive valuable advice and to prepare for General Assembly. You will not only gain in-depth knowledge of your topic but also an overall view on two further issues of your interest to be debated during GA.
welcomeParty | special preperation needed Be prepared to spend a night remembering all the amazing stuff that the 90s have brought to us! Have a Cocktail or a Bluna-Bacardi, dance to Snap‘s „Rhythm is a dancer“ oder Dr Alban‘s „It‘s my life“ and reminisce about Tamagotchis, GameBoys, N‘SYNC, the „Macarena“ dance and all the other things that we all once found totally hip… „Summer of ‚96“ will bring back to you a part of your childhood, when the hits came from the Spice Girls or the Backstreet Boys and when wearing a pair of flares combined with a neon-coloured belly top made you a fashion queen! half-timbered house in Menden’s city center

teambuilding | committeeWork | general assembly teambuilding Teambuilding, in the context of the European Youth Parliament, means communication training focused on group dynamics. The delegates will get to know each other through a series of games and exercises, which will help forming a team. English language barriers between individuals will be broken down and the distribution of tasks within the team will be facilitated.

During Committee Work, the delegates will have many controversial discussions on pressing issues of European politics. The young Europeans have to find different new and innovative solutions, trying the best to employ their cultural backgrounds and experiences made. The goal of committeeWork will be a strong and meaningful resolution, which will be debated on in general assembly.
Dresscode: smart-casual general assembly
The climax and final part of the session will be the General Assembly. In keeping with the parliamentary rules of the European Parliament, the committees will take turns to present and defend their resolutions to the plenary. After the defence and the attack speeches, lively debates will en- sue, culminating in the voting procedure on the resolution itself.
eurovillage | special preparation needed During one evening, your delegation will have a booth to represent your country’s culture and regional products at Eurovillage. You will get the chance to present all that is special about your country: Food, drinks, flags, costumes, brochures - almost everything is allowed to impress the others! Therefore, please make sure that you contact your delegation soon enough to discuss what you want to do, so that you can get in touch with the organisational team if you need a fridge or a heating plate.
