Why West Island businesses should jump aboard the digital transformation train

TECH – pizzeria and corner store to large urban retail chains and manufacturers, every business is feeling the impact of technological advancement in a radically changing world. Digital transformation is ushering in big changes to the modern workplace, forcing a total rethink of how things get done. It’s not just about automating and supporting traditional processes; it’s about creating whole new ways of communicating and collaborating, storing and sharing data, and embracing and implementing new technologies.

Businesses that don’t take the necessary steps to keep up are in danger of losing out to those that have already made the move. Let’s face it, these days, if someone can’t order lunch from their favourite place with one click on an app, they likely to go to somewhere else that lets them do so -- and quickly. With so much on the line, it’s important to get started on a digital transformation journey. But where do you start? Hugues Bélanger, Strategic Partnerships, Director at TELUS, offers his expertise and how TELUS, thanks to the power of its network, is ahead of the game. 1. Businesses need a full-service wired and wireless network. Combining the two into one solution makes it possible to provide a fully resilient solution, without the burden of a second physical connection obsolete, says Mr Belanger. Saving money and boosting efficiency in a in a world where agility and customization are the name of the game is paramount for businesses of all sizes. 2. Put your business in the cloud. “Cloud-based services offer full security and connectivity for just about every type of business,” says Belanger. “ It makes it possible for smaller businesses, in particular, to streamline the need for in-house servers and hard-tofind IT staff.” An important aspect of cloud-based applications is reliability. If you run your point-of-sales or accounting software from a cloud-based server, businesses need to make

sure they are always connected to prevent costly downtime. 3. A fastest and reliable network is key Since more and more services are delivered directly from the cloud, it’s very important to get adequate network speed so the performance of the cloud-based applications are not impacted. It’s why so many Canadian businesses are turning to a new generation of cloud-based network technology for the solution, known as SD-WAN (short for Software-Defined Wide Area Network). SD-WAN is much simpler than the traditional “huband-spoke” technology and much easier and less costly for businesses to set up, maintain and expand. TELUS is the first Canadian service provider to offer its own SD-WAN solution into the market under the name TELUS Network as a Service, or TELUS NaaS. This model put the network in the cloud and keeps costs down by offering a subscription-based approach to scale. “The network you operate on is the beating heart of your business. It’s a service that is becoming as instrumental as having a good accountant” says Bélanger. By using the proper tools, West Island businesses will improve their bottom lines by reducing costs and inefficiencies while growing their market. It also allows for more customization, providing a more satisfying customer experience. So what are you waiting for? TELUS is here to help you harness innovation and ensure your business stays ahead of the competition now and for years to come.

Celebrate your family events!

Free Report Reveals How to Avoid Getting Stuck Owning Two Homes

October 10, 2018

MONTREAL - West Island - Every month, thousands of homeowners are faced with the stressful dilemma of whether to buy first or sell first. You see, if you buy before selling, you could run the risk of owning two homes. Or, just as bad, if you sell first, you could end up homeless. It's what insiders in the industry call the Real Estate Catch 22, and it's an extremely anxious position to find yourself in. This financial and emotional tightrope is one you usually have to walk alone because most agents have no way of helping you with this predicament. But one local realtor is using a unique Guaranteed Sale Program which solves this dilemma. This program guarantees the sale of your present home before you take possession of your new one. If your home doesn't sell in 120 days, they will buy it from you themselves for the previously agreed price ensuring that you never get caught in the Real Estate Catch 22. Before you hire any professional, you should research the market to find out who can do the best job for you. When interviewing agents, find out what kind of guarantee they are willing to give you with respect to the selling of your home. Unfortunately, you'll find that most agents simply cannot make such a guarantee. To help you learn more about this program and how it can make your move less stressful, a FREE special report has been prepared entitled "How to Avoid Getting Stuck with Two Homes". To order a FREE Special Report, visit www.WestislandGuaranteedSold.com or to hear a brief recorded message about how to order your FREE copy of this report call toll-free 1-800-727-7105 and enter 3005. BIGNO’s: The traditional Sicilian bignolatti By: Alyssa de Rosa / mtltimes.ca

FOOD - Just over a month ago, Stefano Infantino opened up the first bignolatti shop ever to be opened in Montreal. Sicilians in Italy grew up with this tradition and there are only some people that have the perseverance to keep it alive. One of those people is Stefano. Bigno’s opened its doors in Rivière-Des-Prairies, in the east end of Montreal on September 1st. Since then, his fresh product rarely stays on the shelves for the entire day. They sell like hotcakes, only this time, they’re

www.mtltimes.ca

hot, balls of dough stuffed with meaty goodness. Before opening, Infantino used to own a café where he was selling his Bigno’s. He noticed they were selling quickly and decided he had to take a chance. “This idea’s been brewing for three-four years now. I went away on vacation and developed the concept. When I got back I launched the company directly on Instagram,” Infantino explains.

What is a bignolatti?

The word was created by farmers in Italy to describe particular ingredients wrapped in dough. A traditional bignolatti is stuffed with cauliflower and olives. “These are my grandmother’s recipes that I learned by hand. We have no machines here and everything is done fresh,” he says. A typical Montreal bignolatti in any bakery or café is usually stuffed with sausages and olives. At Bigno’s however, customers will enjoy a wide variety of ingredients which include: sausage, sausage and olives, sausage and spinach, sausage and roasted peppers, sausage and cauliflower, cauliflower, sausage and onion, sausage and potato, sausages, onion and potato, sausage, onion and roasted peppers, as well as vegetarian options. “I make my bignos with love. I love to cook, and I’ve always watched my grandmothers cooking. I try to keep their recipes going. That’s how they stay alive. Family means a lot, and if we don’t carry on these traditions then these recipes will die.” Address: 11990 J.J. MUSIC

Introducing GAYA Debut EP and First Solo Project – Little Bird

MUSIC - She stunned the jury of ”La Voix” with her remarkable on-stage presence and her electric voice in 2015. After shining on the popular TVA show, Gaya is finally back to seduce the rest of the province with her first Solo Project . We attended the intimate Ep launch at the ti-Agrikol, where Sanya Michel Élia, Alias Gaya was presenting her debut record – Little Bird , as well as celebrating her 30th anniversary. It goes without saying that the place was packed with ecstatic friends, family and fans of the unstoppable force. She was brighter than ever playing her latest five compositions that moved us from a different world and style at each song. Singing in multiples language, her talent was radiating, especially with the badass sound of her seven band members – The TeamGaya band She already demonstrated her raw energy and animal side on the stage of the Québec version of The Voice, but she’s presenting a much more intimate dive into her colorful universe. Each song is a glimpse into her soft and tender personality, that she’ll deliver with the same powerful, sweet and soulful voice. Gaya is definitely returning to us with maturity and www.mtltimes.ca confidence – I don’t necessarily mean more into womanhood, although she did just give birth to a baby last

year, but rather that she’s exploring her own sound and style and you could absolutely feel her enjoyment and that freedom at her EP release. She’s mastering her voice’s pitch and tones on a wide range of musical world. Sometimes fusing R&B with folks and a layer of jazz. Sometimes it’s world music with a funky bass-line. Always connected to her Haitian roots and with the gospel influences from her younger age, she loves to play around with musical style. Singing about liberty, compromise and passion from a new relation. Jumping from french, to english and creole – this sweet musical journey (available for only 5$!) is one you’ll definitively want to discover. That being said, the ambiance was instantly set at the Ti-Agrikol once Sanya took the floor, infecting the crowd immediately with her electric energy to begin her night of celebration. Gaya played all of her new songs accompanied by a brass section, two backing vocal, a bassist, a guitarist, a drummer and a keyboardist – all 15 of whom were brilliant and grooving like beasts.

Gaya played all of her new songs accompanied by a brass section, two backing vocal, a bassist, a guitarist, a drummer and a keyboardist – all of whom were brilliant and grooving like beasts. Gaya included a cover of Uptown funk, along with a tribute to the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. She first performed that cover of Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson on the stage of the famous Québec show. Already armed with a diploma in ”technique policière”, The singer from brossard left her study in law in 2009 to devote herself entirely to her music. “I want to give myself the chance to be a singer” After touring with the Boogie Wonder Band and performing at ”La Voix” in 2015, Gaya introduced a young child into her life. She took some time in 2017 from her pregnancy to write Little Bird, an album she wanted to her image with her sound ; ‘I didn’t want a album to sell, I wanted to give the public my hearth and something authentic.” Discover Gaya new EP Little bird: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/little-birdep/1424397916 16
