Spring is just around the corner! I am ready for winter to be over! At this month’s meeting we will be talking about financial investing with Scott Reynolds with Waddell and Reed Financial Advising. It will be a very interesting topic, so please make sure to join us.

Positions for our Board will be available for next year. This is a great way for you to get more involved with Montgomery Moms and meet new people. Open positions will be emailed out in the next few weeks. Have a happy Valentine’s Day!

GENERAL MEETINGS.... Our monthly general meetings are a great place to come and unwind with new and old friends! Each month we gather (generally the first Tuesday of the month) at 7:30 PM in Terwilligers Lodge at Dulle Park. Collect a name tag, check out the tables listings of current group events, grab a drink and some treats, and then do a little socializing. We will begin our meetings at 7:45 PM with announcements and business from the Board. Presentations or the evening’s event will begin at 8 PM and will end with social time at 8:45 PM. RSVPs are never necessary. You are always welcome! Bring a friend! The next general meeting will be on Tuesday, February 5th at 7:30 PM. Please join Financial Advisors Scott Reynolds and Shelley Funke-Frommeyer (certified financial planner and mother of 6) from Waddell and Reed Financial Consulting. Learn about investment and risk management strategies to take you to and through retirement. Social Security benefits will likely be diminished or

eliminated by the time we retire, so; it’s a really important issue to think and plan for! The evening will provide: refreshments courtesy of Waddell and Reed and plenty of time for questions and answers surrounding your financial concerns. Scott Reynolds found his way to Cincinnati thanks to the sport of hockey. Born and raised on a cattle ranch in Saskatchewan, Canada, he met his wife, Mel, while playing NCAA Division I ice hockey at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. After graduating at the top of his class with a degree in Finance, Scott spent 5 years playing pro hockey in Cincinnati; Rochester; Hamilton, Ontario; Northern Italy, and Zagreb, Croatia, while helping to manage his family’s ranching business from afar. During their travels, Scott and Mel liked Cincinnati so much that, this past spring, they decided to settle down here with their 1 year old son, Eli. In his new career as a financial advisor, Scott loves to help clients reach their financial goals, and was recently asked to join the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, where he’s helping to find new ways for our community to continue to grow and thrive.

Book Club.... A fun, lively discussion.... Book club will try to meet the third week of each month (with some exceptions). I will let the host choose the day, time and place. Please let me know if you’d like to host. We are happy to meet at houses or out and about. We usually start meeting around 7:30 PM but the exact time can be up to the host. OUTREACH NEWS!!! We have a new addition to our Montgomery Moms Family this month. Congratulations to Jackie and David Ogden! They welcomed Julia Xiu Ogden to their family on January 4th! He arrived at 10:18am and was 8 pounds, 9 ounces and 20 inches long. Julia joins her big sisters Emma and Olivia! All are doing well! A huge thank you goes out to our meal-makers for the month Jill Branam, Lori Suffield and Mary Jill Winstel. Your efforts are much appreciated! If you are pregnant, please contact Katherine Rapp so that we can prepare meals for you once your baby arrives. If you are experiencing a hardship or loss, please also contact Katherine Rapp so that we can provide assistance and/or meals as needed.

Green “Detox� Soup makes 4 servings

This is from a recent blog post on (our November speaker). Directions: 1. In a large soup pot heat olive oil over medium heat. Stir in garlic, onion, and ginger. Saute, stirring for 3 minutes.


2. Add broccoli, spinach, parsnips, celery, and parsley. Stir just until spinach wilts. Add just enough water to submerge vegetables.

1 tablespoon olive oil 2 garlic cloves, minced 2 tablespoons diced onion 1-inch fresh ginger, peeled and chopped 1 bunch of broccoli, cut up

3. Bring to a gentle boil, cover pot and reduce heat to a moderate simmer. Cook for approximately 15 minutes or until all the vegetables are soft. 4. Puree in a blender or by using an immersion blender.

8 oz. fresh spinach leaves 3 parsnips, peeled and sliced

5. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice if you prefer a brighter flavor.

2 ribs of celery, sliced 1 handful of fresh parsley, roughly chopped salt and pepper to taste

It was easy to make and great for a cold winter day.

Our Moms Night Out - January 24th, 2013

We request our MMoms to please send us pictures of events they have attended to share with other MMoms and to enliven our newsletter.


Tequila isn't mixed into creamy drinks too often, but when it is, such as here in the Agave Kiss, it's a dream. This one happens to be ultra-creamy, complete with chocolate and raspberry liqueurs and double cream, shaken to a slurry mix. The original recipe here does call for silver, or blanco, tequila but I prefer to use an aged one instead. The reposados and anejos add a caramel sweetness that goes perfectly with the creams for the ultimate sweetheart drinks. Ingredients: • • • • • •

2 oz Herradura Tequila Silver 1 oz white creme de cacao 1 oz double cream 1/2 oz Chambord white chocolate flakes for rimming fresh raspberries for garnish

Preparation: 1. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add Herradura tequila, white crème de cacao, double cream and Chambord. 2. Shake for 15 seconds. 3. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass, rimmed with white chocolate, add a spear of fresh raspberries, and serve.
