here was a band, that everyone loved passionately. And when that band disappeared into the dark rabbit hole that is their studio one day to work on new songs, all the fans were very, very sad because there wouldn‘t be any new photos, no concerts and no promo-appearances for a long time. Completely devastated they cried their hearts out - what to do now, what to do now?!?

EDITORIAL

Those fans, who have been bewitched by the band for a long time already, knew about the secret of the sudden disappearance, and knew to calm down the newbies.

The stuff that fans come up with during the time when the boys are on break is what we compiled for you in this „Dark Side of the Fandom“ issue, that you‘re reading right now.

The band? Disappeared? No problem! It happened in 2006, 2008 and 2010 already. Ever since then, fans all over the world have found means and ways to still entertain themselves during the long droughts.

So without further ado: we hope you‘re having a fantastic time and loads of fun with this issue of MONSUN! ;D

JE NE HABLA...?? Tokio Hotel-fans from all over the world want to read MONSUN and naturally, preferably in their own language - we‘re extremely humbled and honored by that. Nevertheless, we just cannot translate the magazine into so many different languages (which is mainly due to us being linguistically challenged although we wish we could speak every language on this planet, man, that would make touring after the band SO much easier...!). Which is why we do need your help in making MONSUN available for as many people as possible. We are extremely thankful for every article that you‘re translating for your fellow fans and put up on your own homepage. Don‘t forget to send us a link or screenshot because among all busy helpers, we‘re giving away one absolute highlight: AN ORIGINAL AUTOGRAPH CARD SIGNED BY ALL FOUR BOYS! So go for it!! ;)

A [fan] is a person with a liking and enthusiasm for something, such as a band. Fans of a particular thing or person constitute its fanbase or fandom. They may show their enthusiasm by being a member of a fan club, holding conventions, creating fanzines, writing fan mail, or by promoting the object of their interest and attention.

www.monsunmagazin.com

Fans usually have a strong enough interest that some changes in their lifestyles are made to accommodate devotion to the focal object. As well, fans are motivated to demonstrate their involvement with the area of interest through certain behaviors. (Source: Wikipedia)

STARSHINE: MUSICAL-FANDOM If the object of your affection is not only available for one or two nights but maybe up to two years, fan behaviour can become a little obsessive and extreme. Hardcore fans can easily manage to see the very same play a 150 times in one run. Regarding the pre-sale ticket prices, it’s only possible for most of us to see a play more often by getting standing tickets or queuing for cheap last minute tickets. Of course those contingents are very limited, so in order to get into the show for little money, you are not only spending the evening in the theater but also a good part of your afternoon outside, queuing. Which is totally fine if one just wants to see a play every now and then. But fans who attend the show three or four times a week - and they do this for several months! - do have to re-arrange pretty much their whole lives to accommodate their hobby. Fortunately the musical fandom is a very mixed one. There are all kinds

Random Fanboy

of fans; from those who just want to see their favorite play for a third time and save money to students who do their whole studying for the finals on the staircase in front of the playhouse. Some really DO live for musicals and as with every other hobby too, it’s kind of unhealty to to let a simple hobby take over your whole life. Some fans really have lost their grip on reality. There are girls who do believe with all their hearts that the actor on stage is searching the whole audience for HER and is singing to HER only during the show. And it doesn’t even matter where she is sitting that night or who is playing that day. No matter if it’s first cast or one of the two understudies – they are performing for her exclusively. There’s another girl in my musical fandom, who is always waiting by the Stage Door for this one young Austrian musical singer, giving him a bouquet of flowers almost every night. At the end of the season she gifted him with a photo of her – naked in the bathtub! (Is it possible to get any creepier?) Rumor has it, that this very photo was still

Crazy Grützel

on display on the billboard of the backstage area two productions later. Sounds like a funny story to tell, but it’s definitely also tragic when you think about an 18 year-old girl having apparently nothing better to do than coming to the theater’s Stage Door and watching her star leave his place of work for two years straight. :/ But what’s this Stage Door anyway that we’ve been talking about so much? Well, it’s actually a pretty cool thing, because it‘s the place where performers can do their fan service after the curtain has fallen – if they choose to. If they choose not to, they just leave through some other exit. But experience has shown me that usually way more than half of the cast comes out to the fans and write autographs, pose for pictures or simply talk to the fans, most of them with the patience of a saint! It’s really fascinating how nice, relaxed and down-to-earth the interaction with the fans is usually done at the Stage Door.

Overall I can say that the musical fandom is a pretty kind one – both when it comes to fan friendly ticket prices and the fan service at the stage door. And for mostly it works really well – there’s always the odd black sheep around though but that’s nothing unusual for fandoms either.

www.monsunmagazin.com

ZIGGY: SUPERNATURAL-FANDOM One advantage of the Tokio Hotel fandom is certainly that most of it takes place on the European continent, you‘re, more or less, at home. Of course, it could be very, very different. If you have the dumb luck of being a fan of an American TV series, you‘re pretty much doomed to suffer in fandom limbo. Since last summer there are conventions in Europe, among others in Germany, which makes being a fan a lot easier, but before that! BEFORE THAT! NADA! ZIP! ZILCH!

Hotel from Europe to the US, your fellow fans at home think you‘re pretty much certifiable – do the same for Supernatural and all that will get you is those lovely guys at customs peeing their pants laughing; your fellow SPN fans won‘t think less of you, quite the contrary. Chances are quite good that you‘re sharing a plane with a couple of other fans as well!

So what do you do? You do the one thing that comes naturally with the Tokio Hotel fandom: you travel. And since you so desperately want to see your “Supernatural” stars live on stage, you murder your piggy bank and drag your friend with you across the big pond for a weekend in the US. Should you travel for Tokio

MONSUN

Rating fan behaviour is a tough thing, because there’s no clear line between what’s okay and what is not, as it is all measured individually. To me personally, it is okay to go ahead and get your second or even third picture with your star. But I do think it’s not okay if hardcore fans are taking advantage of the stars’ good nature by monopolising their time and wanting yet another autograph or another photo every single night. It’s really great that most of the actors are still taking their time with the fans in the 20th month of the running time, but that doesn’t mean the fans can or should chat them up every time they go there. After all it’s just unnecessary and bothersome for everyone involved and in addition, there are a lot of musical tourists who only have this one chance to get a personal memory among the crowd as well. And for real: Does the 50th autograph by the very same singer still make a fan happy? I don’t think so. :( Something that applies to everyone who interacts with fans like this is that some fans sort of mistake the cast members for their personal friends and forget that this whole deal is part of their work.

Personally, I though it was great – one of the guys even married on my birthday...which he totally did to honor me – megalomaniac much? Of course there are still girls who cannot stomach the idea of the guys having wives and who attack Dani and Gen constantly, which I find very sad because they‘re really lovely ladies. Let‘s hope the twins find their matches, too one day and that there won‘t be drama like that. (Unlikely, I know...)

MONSUN

There‘s the same trademark hysteria you‘ll find at any Tokio Hotel concert, even though cons should be a lot more mellow. After all everyone has their assigned seats and you can buy autographs and photo-ops well in advance. Each and every time I think how great it would be if you could have that sort of thing with TH, but it just doesn‘t work that way and we probably won‘t ever get that ;D

We‘re still missing the worst fandom meltdown though and I‘ve already seen it happen in the SPN fandom: not only do the lead actors (who, naturally, everyone wants to shag/do the naughty with/do the horizontal tango with) have actual working, long time relationships, no! Last year they married. I think everyone can imagine the kind of drama/fandom implosion that triggered.

...and that‘s what‘s it all about, right? It doesn‘t matter if it‘s a concert or a convention – fans from all over the place come together to meet their stars and to have fun. Naturally, every fandom has its fair share of crazies but fans and actors still get along quite well. The last SPN convention I attended, one of the lead actors was groped. Yet again. The lady with the wandering hands/ the groper was kicked out and the rest of us suffered from secondhand embarrassment. Yet again.

SARAH: NKOTB-FANDOM I was fifteen and really, absolutely needed to go to America. My parents wondered but in the end they let me go. What I didn‘t tell them: I didn‘t just want to go there to improve my English, but also, perhaps more than anything, to meet my favorite band there. A part of my favorite band – the two brothers. So there we were, my friend and I, at a gas station in America, with our bicycles. We must have been pretty conspicuous because apparently the Americans in that part of the country didn‘t usually venture all that far with just their bikes. Several people stopped to ask where we wanted to go and if we needed help getting there. In hindsight, traveling like that probably wasn‘t the best, nor the safest idea. We couldn‘t get rid of one man who insisted on escorting us to the address we gave him. We awkwardly stalked towards the house we had named. Thank God, no one was home. After the man had said his goodbyes we hurried up the street to where the brothers lived. There were about 20 girls, from all over the world, al-

www.monsunmagazin.com

Right now the band is trying to achieve a comeback. At the last tour you apparently could meet them in the hotel lobby, have a chat. I didn‘t go though; New Kids On The Block haven‘t interested me in a long time. Shortly after returning from America, I had my first boyfriend and wasn‘t a fan anymore.

Even back then there were fans traveling from all over the world just to meet their idols. Neighbors back then were just as annoyed as the TH twins‘ neighbors are now. Unlike Tokio Hotel, New Kids On The Block signed autographs and let themselves be prhotographed where they lived – Tokio Hotel are not the first band to suffer under rabid fans, not by a long shot. Between their success and NKOTB‘s lie a good 20 years, innumerable other “boy bands” and experiences gained in dealing with overly zealous fans. As far as Tokio Hotel are concerned there have been problematic encounters with fans before The Afghans and unless these people hadn‘t run to the police themselves to tell their stories, the incident would have remained just as obscure as others before that. Tokio Hotel live with this kind of thing every day and they know how to handle it.

SARAH

We were incredibly lucky – after about an hour the garage opened and a black van rolled past us. My heart was beating like crazy.

They stopped right in front of me and the window was lowered. “Hi, I‘m from Germany. Can I take a picture?” I managed despite everything. “Sure,” he grinned with the cutest smile in the world, adding, “You‘ve got beautiful eyes.” I was so floored my camera crashed against his car, which did so not amuse the bodyguard, making him yell at me. Then they were gone. I was 15 and he was 24. Meeting New Kids on the Block‘s Donnie Wahlberg in Boston was 17 years ago. I don‘t quite know why I did that or what I hoped would happen but it was still a great experience.

ready waiting on the front lawn. We met Americans, but also French, Swedes and some German girls. They told us that we would probably have to come here more often, seeing as you needed an inordinate amount of luck to meet one of the guys. We also shouldn‘t be worried when the neighbors would come out to yell and swear at us. They were all a bit tightly wound on account of the fans turning their front lawn into a camping site; we also shouldn‘t be scared when the police came in a minivan. That would happen about once a day, then you would be taken into “custody” to the nearest police station where they would take down your details. No biggie. In spite of all this, my standing in front of that house never seemed wrong. I never stopped to think that maybe the boys didn‘t want to see us or that maybe they were annoyed by their fans‘ behavior.

We Tokio Hotel-fans love our four boys, that goes without saying. Some love them so much though, that they‘ve decided to spend their whole lives with the band (and that even works without getting married, yay!) and so, as a proof of their love, they‘ve gotten a tattoo - some even more than one! MONSUN spent weeks browsing the net to find the best, most creative and just downright fabulous Tokio-Tattoos! You think that YOUR tattoo is still missing despite our best efforts? No problem! I got my tattoo in October 2010. It‘s „Freiheit 90“, just like Bill‘s tattoo, except I changed the number, because I was born in 1990. ;) This tattoo symbolizes the current changes in my life, the fight for my own freedom and my independence and also my admiration for Bill Kaulitz and Tokio Hotel, because I will not deny, that every time I look at it, I think of Bill. He is my muse, my inspiration, when I‘m drawing, so thinking of him whenever I look at the tattoo, is not a bad thing at all. LEMONIE, GERMANY Every time someone asks me, what I like best about my job, I usually pull a card out of my box of „standard answers“. That card usually says something like: I HAVE THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL AROUND ALL AROUND THE WORLD. Ever since November 23rd, 2010, that box has one more cue-card in it. Now I also can say: I COULD GO TO THE TOKIO HOTEL GIG IN SÃO PAULO. Indeed, it was completely normal for me to add the Brazilian metropolis into my usual flight schedule when I heard about the tour dates for the November gigs in South America. But really standing in the Via Funchal on November 23rd, well, that was a different story entirely... We only landed in São Paulo on the day before the big happening, so I had to get through my usual standard program at the hotel: sleep, a bit of wellness and lunch. When it gradually got dark and you weren‘t really supposed to go outside by yourself as a woman, I got curious despite the warnings and wanted to take a closer look at the venue. So I took a walk up the highway, past the awful slums and parts of the city with an enormous crime rate.

www.monsunmagazin.com

WELCOME TO HUMANOID CITY 2010

After about half an hour of walking on foot, I came to what I think was a „better“ part of town and all of the sudden, it appeared before me. In all its glory. The Via Funchal. Surprisingly, there wasn‘t one single Tokio Hotel fan camping around the whole area which I thought was really weird because people in all kinds of online forums were reporting many people have been „camping in front of the venue for days“ already. As you can probably guess, my illusion, that information in Tokio Hotel forums is always true, was immediately destroyed. ;) Completely unimpressed, I went back home where I instantly fell into my bed because I was still pretty tired from my long trip. When I woke up on the next day, I could hardly believe what would happen that evening: TOKIO HOTEL LIVE IN BRAZIL. And I would be part of it!! In the evening, I once again took a walk to the venue and was surprised to find out that the queue in front of Via Funchal wasn‘t as long as I thought it would be. Since I had a ticket for the first sector anyway, I was pretty relaxed when I started queuing. What really surprised me, was that there wasn‘t any kind of hostility towards me at all - on the contrary - everyone was really friendly towards me! All Brazilian fans, who by the way also traveled to the con-

cert from all corners of the country, asked me about where I came from and told me how happy they were that I would „also be here“. I remember quite a bunch of concerts in France where German fans were barely tolerated and secretly hated but in Brazil, I was loved for being a fan from Germany. Not only people being so friendly surprised me but also the many different groups of fans who stood together in front of the venue. It was a colorful mix of all kinds from groups of young men in their twenties to whole school classes... everything you can possibly think of. The doors opened at 8pm sharp and by that time, the fact that all fans were completely relaxed didn‘t even surprise me anymore. No quarreling, no screaming, no pushing around, no whining. Just a really relaxed walk into the venue. The Via Funchal is a transformed theater that had all chairs taken out of the ballroom just for the concert. The venue wasn‘t all that big but I still was really impressed by how quickly the room filled up the the brink until hardly any blank spots were visible. The first heartbeat started at 10pm! I don‘t quite know what I expected, but I was pretty sure that Tokio Hotel wouldn‘t put up a special show that evening. Nevertheless, what I was able to witness and foremost feel was something completely new: The mood inside the venue was dominated by a sort of „freshness“, that I haven‘t been able to witness at

SEITE 21

WELCOME TO HUMANOID CITY 2010

concerts in Germany in a long time. The Brazilian fans were so incredibly happy to see Tokio Hotel for the first time and the energy of that happiness spread around like a wildfire and pumped through everyone‘s veins. I even forgot that I had seen the boys life for an endless number of times already because I was so infected with that feeling of pure happiness that everyone inside the venue had written on their faces.

though, the boys were completely mesmerized by their fans. Bill looked like he had waited all his life to play just this one concert during every song he performed and sometimes, it even looked like he didn‘t even know what to do with all of that rediscovered energy he had. Even Gustav, who I think had lost some of his radiation in the last years and often appeared to be depressed, showed everyone his „happy face“ that night. Tom and Georg were in high spirits as usual and all four boys really seemed as if that evening was special to them. The playlist lasted for about two hours, just like the gigs in Germany. As usual, I liked the songs a lot. But what really impressed me that night was the mood in the venue, that

made the concert in Sao Paulo absolutely unforgettable. I could see the spark of their early career in Bill, Tom, Gustav and Georg‘s eyes. I could see the little, innocent boys who so easily played their way in our hearts with their music. That evening showed me, that the boys still love their job and probably will for a long time. During the last song „Forever now“, hope has risen inside of me, that they soon will return to us with just that energy, that got us all addicted to them in the first place. OBRIGADA, SAO PAULO!

TH_INFO

FROM THE FIRST MOMENT THAT THE BOYS CAME ON STAGE, THE ENERGY WAS CRACKLING! I‘ve always been a huge fan of live gigs, but I‘ve also seen the boys lose some of the glamour they‘ve had in their early days as they became more professional on stage. This evening

KIINSZY, MEXICO Well, you sent me some flyers to give away at the Tokio Hotel concert in Mexico. I‘m sending you some pictures of fans with your flyers - they ALL wanted one! They were like crazy, asking for more - I was scared, haha! :D

KIINSZY

BUT THAT‘S THE WAY IT IS IN OUR COUNTRY MEXICO, us fans are always crazy for everything we can get our hands on and we scream really loudly and hysterically!

SEITE 24

Like for example, during the Tokio Hotel concert, the guys freaked out and stopped the concert for a bit because so many girls were fainting! I wasn‘t down in the mosh-pit where it happened, but I was watching everything from above (I had one of the www.monsunmagazin.com

seats at the very top) Down there inside the venue, it was really horrible to watch... the girls had no air to breathe and they told me after the concert that it was too hot to stay inside the bulk of fans - they were pushing each other around like crazy! The venue staff was nice enough to toss them some water bottles before and during the concert but a good hundred girls still fainted before the concert even started... a guesstimate but there were many! During the concert... I bet you can imagine that as soon as Bill started to sing, even more of them fainted! I have to admit, I felt a little ashamed that the guys had to watch all that. :(

WELCOME TO HUMANOID CITY 2010

So I had to do a change of plans when I asked my mom if I could go to the concert in Mexico City, at first she told me NO! YOU‘RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! and I felt like my whole world was crashing down... so after crying like a crazy person, she got soft on me and told me:„Ok, but you will buy seating tickets way above, because I absolutely don‘t want you down there!“ Well, of course I was upset with my mom for that because I couldn‘t see the band close-up like I saw them in Acapulco but at least I was able to enjoy the concert. I‘m still completely HEALTHY and I didn‘t have to suffer like the other fans. :)

NEVERTHELESS, THE CONCERT WAS JUST AMAZING. It was the first time I saw Tokio Hotel LIVE - because the first time I saw the band, it was in Acapulco at the TELEHIT AWARDS and they were sadly doing a playback back then (I was in first row there though and that was amazing too though!!). At first, I was planning on going to the Monterrey concert but sadly

www.monsunmagazin.com

that one got canceled! Oh my god, you don‘t know how upset I was and how horrible that was for me! I had everything perfectly planned out - the hotel, the flight and naturally, I‘ve also had a concert ticket already! I mean... I had tickets for the front row because for the Monterrey concert, you could buy tickets for the first sector! :( SEITE 25

Fanfiction is the term for stories written by Tokio Hotel fans that put the band into new, extended or alternative situations compared to what really goes on in their lives. Or for all fans of simple explanations: We do what we want with Tokio Hotel!! :D Matching with the general tone of this issue of MONSUN, we decided to pick up on the taboo-topic „Fanfiction“ and had a look around in fandom to find out who of you even reads those stories, writes themselves, loves or even hates them. The admittedly pretty surprising answers are published on the following pages as usual! Have fun!

WHAT IS...

Fanfiction-Rating?? G (General) = Bedtime-stories for all fans

PG (Partental Guidance) = Bedtime-stories for fans, who are soooooo in love with Bill R (Restricted) = Bedtime-stories for fans, who‘d like to "reden“ with Bill NC-17 = Bedtime-stories for fans, who dream of having filthy, dirty sex with Tom SEITE 26

CAROLINA, ARGENTINIA I don‘t read fanfiction, because I‘m usually too busy but I don‘t have any problems with them. I think it‘s a good idea to write and imagine a different reality and it‘s good to know that people can express their feelings and hopes in literature. Maybe I‘ll read one story some day - a lot of fans recommended some to me. ;)

CAROLINA, CHILE I write and read fanfiction. It is one of my hobbies! I mean, it is a beautiful way to dream about something that you want to happen, right? You can be whoever you want and you can do anything you want with whoever you want... it‘s the perfect life! :)

MARIAN, AUSTRIA Nope, I‘ve never written any fanfiction myself. But that‘s mostly due to the fact that I don‘t have any good ideas of my own and I don‘t want to steal someone else‘s. :)

KRISTYNA, CZECH REPUBLIC I‘ve been reading Tokio Hotel fanfiction since 2007. It‘s incredible, how thrilling, sensitive and entertaining many of those stories are to me. Even if it‘s probably strange to turn two brothers into a couple, Bill and Tom really are the most interesting characters in the band to me and so I mostly read stories in which they are a couple.

GIULIA, ITALY I‘ve never written any fanfiction, but I read lots of them! I love Tokio Hotel fanfiction, because they‘re written by fans and so they report our dreams, our cares and our hopes... they‘re very important and significant for me! There are different types of fanfiction and I prefer those written by my favourite authors... because after reading lots of fanfiction in my time in the fandom already, I‘m passionate and loyal to those authors. :)

NICOLE, USA I really love reading Tokio Hotel fanfiction because of the variety of stories that creative fans such as myself write. Though I am not a writer myself, I have met amazing authors that write great fanfiction from around the world and I am always looking forward to new stories!

XXHSK, FRANCE I read A LOT of fanfiction about Tokio Hotel and the only pairing I read is Tom/Bill. I know a lot of people find it sick to imagine the twins together but that‘s the only couple I like to read about (Georg/Gustav is okay too but only as a “side pairing“ in a story). To be honest, I‘m quite addicted to fanfiction. I read at least one chapter every night before going to sleep because if I don‘t, I feel like I miss something. It‘s quite great to imagine how the boys would live in a different way, personality and all. I just simply love fanfiction, even though I‘m a bit picky about the stories I read, like all of us: I can‘t stand fanfiction that aren‘t written well or that have too many mistakes in them. I don‘t like those with unrealistic plots either.

AIMEE, MEXICO I don‘t write fanfiction but I enjoy reading them. It‘s amazing how the fans write all those beautiful stories that make us imagine that perfect dream with our favorite band, hoping that one day it could be real. I love it!

ΛΊΝΑ ΤΡΕΛΌ ΤΟΚΙΟΧΟΤΕΛΆΚΙ, GREECE Living in another world... Doing things the way you like... Meeting or dating people you have only dreamed about... These are some of the best things about fanfiction. I write fanfiction and I enjoy reading them too. Fanfiction is like the drug that keeps me alive.

HOT CHERRY, GERMANY I‘ve written one or two stories once, quite some time ago, and those weren‘t very good. I also took forever and a day to finish them. Now, I‘d rather read fanfiction. Most of the time, I enjoy those that are already finished or written by authors that I know of and that I know write good stories and finish them too - because it really sucks, when you‘re completely sucked into a story, only to have the author abandon it in the end. While reading fanfiction, you‘re in a fantasy world, experiencing loads of fun stuff. Some stories make me sad, others make me laugh and that‘s what I like so much about it.

KATYA, RUSSIA Of course I read fanfiction - I spend so much time on keeping up with the newest chapters of my favorite stories, that I hardly have time to read „real“ books anymore! The great thing about fanfiction is that you‘re getting new chapters to read on a daily basis and that completely unrelated to whether the band is touring at the moment or not! And if the band is on their way somewhere around the globe at that time, the recent news are just being written into the stories as well by the authors to keep them up to date, how great is that! I write fanfiction myself as well - have done for four years already! At the beginning, I wasn‘t very good but now, I think that my stories have been gradually getting better, because as an author, I get a lot of feedback from my readers! Writing fanfiction myself gives me the chance to meet up with Bill, date him or even be with him - all of that is stuff that would never happen to me in real life in a million years! But in fanfiction, I have a chance and that‘s really great!

HAZEL, LIECHTENSTEIN Yeah, I read fanfiction - even though not as regularly as when I first started out in fandom and yeah, I‘m also writing. I keep my stories to myself though and don‘t put them online. What I like is that the authors can pretty much do whatever they want because when it comes down to it, what fanfiction really is, is a lot of fantasy and hard work. Other than that, it‘s a good way to pass time for me whenever I‘m bored. Once I start reading, I feel like I‘m in the middle of the story. What I don‘t like so much though is that a lot of fanfiction start to resemble one another and it‘s sometimes really obvious for the reader what‘ll happen next. :(

CARINA, AUSTRIA I don‘t read as much fanfiction anymore as I did some years ago but sure, the idea to write stories about the Tokio Hotel twins is pretty perfect. They totally match the Japanese ideal of beauty and since the shounen-ai genre also originates from Japan like the band‘s name, I think it fits Bill and Tom quite perfectly. And I think a lot of fans think just like me when they think about their wunderkinder! ;)

MARIA, ITALY I‘ve been through a couple of fandoms already. Nevermind, whether it‘s about a book-series, a movie or TV-show or a band that I like, fanfiction simply is one of the major parts of being in a fandom for me. Especially in the times, when Tokio Hotel is on break, it‘s great when you‘re able to read something „new“ about them at night. The stories also got better over the last five years and I‘m still happy to be browsing the various fanfiction archives.

This time we‘re making an exception and are also adding a little comment from the MONSUN-staff to this article - not without reason: When we called for comments about the topic „fanfiction“, we really didn‘t think we‘d get ONLY positive comments! That‘s pretty amusing of course (and yeah, part of the MONSUN-staff is also addicted to fanfiction... ;D) and also shows, that fanfiction apparently are an integral part of fandom. The creativity that goes into writing those stories is just amazing so consider us big fans of all of you! :D

onsun: How did you get the idea of making dolls? Ages ago I found balljointed Final Fantasy doll on Google and fell in love immediately. At some point I have seen the “Puppenjungs” and finally found a shop in Germany and then it started! How much time do you need for one doll? You can buy the basic doll and if I have a character in mind, it actually doesn‘t take that much time - I‘m done within a few weeks, provided I have all needed materials at home. How many dolls do you have in your collection so far? By now I have five ball-jointed dolls and one Pullip - so a total of six dolls. How often do you re-style your dolls? I regularly redo the make-up for my

dolls since the fixing spray attracts a lot of dust and dirt and the faces become gray quickly. I redo the make-up once a year and more often if I’m dissatisfied. I change the clothes for every new photo-shoot or if I have something new, otherwise they remain the same style. Zuko is an exception – save for his hair, he changes clothes regularly. He often gets new stuff. Whenever I discover a new piece of clothing on Bill that I like, Zuko gets it aswell. As far as it is feasible to reproduce that is.

them all, but I think I could never sell one of them. Every doll has its own story and to me they‘ve become something like little roommates by now. Something that probably many people wouldn’t understand unless they have a doll or something similar as well is that they – and especially Zuko - help me cope with bad times in life. They comfort me and even improve my mood, just like really good friends who don‘t say anything but are just there for you, who listen. ;D

Any other things to tell about your dolls? Apart from the fact, that four of them don‘t get much love compared to Zuko, there’s not much to tell. I love all of them. Sometimes I wonder if I really need

onsun: How did you get the idea for making dolls? This was actually quite spontaneous. I just wanted to try to make a Mini-Bill. :) How long do you need for one? Oh, this is quite different. Depends on what person it shall become. ;) Usually I need several hours. How big is your current “puppet army” at the moment? There are currently four Mini-Bills, two Mini-Toms and two life-size dolls at my place. At a friend‘s place in Cologne there “live” about 22 dolls, 2 are in France, one Tom doll in the Netherlands and 4 in Germany. At the moment, I’m making 2 dolls for the PETA campaign – they have everything it takes to become my personal favorites.

SEITE 34

Do you have other dolls or „only“ the twins? I once tried a Justin Bieber doll, which now belongs to the daughter of a friend. Otherwise I stick to the twins, because Bill and Tom really fascinate me. Where do you get their outfits from? I sew most of the clothes myself. Some other parts I buy, mainly in Hong Kong. How often do you re-style them do you create a new doll every time? I make a new one each time. Which materials do you use? The little dolls are made of plastic, with movable joints. The large puppets consist of fiber glass reinforced plastic.

Would you want to tell us anything else about you or your dolls? My first attempt was an epic fail and went straight into the garbage. ;) I am really happy about your interest in my dolls and just wanted to tell something about me - I think, I’m a completely unusual Tokio Hotel fan. I’m 37 and a single mother of two boys. They like the mini Bills and Toms very much as well, especially my little boy who even managed to turn me into a TH fan. I’m pretty fascinated by Tom and Bill as individuals. What they achieved in their young lives till now and so on. I have a lot of respect for it.

e‘ve saved the best for last... or something like that. The grand finale of the Hall of FShame series features Bill and seriously, at least two double pages full of epic failures would be just right for him... at least that was our first thought when we got to it. However, what we have discovered while browsing through the images is, that the TH frontman is by far better dressed than we expected. And better than his band mates anyway.

THERE WERE A FEW DISCUSSIONS AND DIFFERENCES WITHIN THE FANDOM BECAUSE OF HIS DREADS BACK IN 2009, BUT EVERYONE AGREED ON THE OUTFIT. DARK COLOURS DO FIT OUR BILL. AND VESTS OR COATS AND HEAVY CHAINS BELONG TO BILL JUST AS THE BLACK PANDA EYES.

ust like his big bro, Bill tends to walk around with a short jacket when it’s freezing cold outside or in a fur cap in midsummer. We recommend: before reaching into your wardrobe you better surf by wetter. com or simply open the hotel window to check. Could help a lot and we wouldn’t have to wonder (and worry) so much. And just a hint, Bill: sometime soon, when you‘ll least expect it, we’ll come to your place and burn all of your men-high-heels in a spontaneous bonfire!!!!!

e bet you all know the feeling: you get to know a new, cool band, surf the internet and forums for a bit and all of the sudden, you come across all of those weird, new words and catch-phrases that everyone seems to know and that seem to have a meaning of their own... but all you understand is nada!?!? No panic! Just for our new readers (and everyone else), we put together a small list of the most important Tokio-Slang you should know! :D

COLA (LIGHT) Is the new Red Bull and because Coke makes fat, the twins only drink Coke. And because Coke makes fat, the Gs only drink Coke Light and as usual try to do the Spartan way of life. Business as usual.

FAN-ACTIONS Are seldom successful, completely overrated and only for pompous asses (= the ORGANIZATION-COMITTEE).

THUS

GIRLFRIEND Only the Gs are allowed to have those. We would be happy for the twins from the bottom of our hearts if they found someone too though. Really. No, really! Don‘t look at us like that and GET THAT BITCH OVER THERE AWAY FROM TOM!!!

TGOT (The Good Old Times) Are being missed most dearly. Back then, when Bill still had the pretty, long hair and the crooked teeth, when he was still chubby-cheeked, before his voice was breaking, when he was tiny, had no pubic-hair, erm, facial hair, didn‘t wear designer-clothes, drank Red Bull, loved Burgers, spoke German in interviews, all albums were released in German only, Bill wasn‘t an arrogant ass but one of us, ..... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!! *teary breakdown*

LOITSCHE The place that started it all! The place, where nothing, really NOTHING is to do, except to imagine how bored the twins must have been because there was REALLY NOTHING to do at all.

MONSUN That‘s us. Naturally. We are awesome. And funny and nice and good-looking and hard working and also totally humble. ... oh yeah, and then there‘s that one Tokio Hotelsong...

GAY Is Bill. Because when it comes down to it, that‘s still better than admitting to oneself that he‘s straight and STILL not friggin‘ interested in us at all.

LOFT First official twins-living-space after they moved out of Hotel-Mom. Attracted fans magically - see also: TGOT.

MANAGEMENT Universally usable. If all else fails: always at fault. Pseudoargument in petty fan-wars: BUT I AM IN CONTACT WITH MANAGEMENT AND I WILL REPORT YOU!! Yeaaah, sure. Wait... we‘ll be right back... we gotta get the phone... David is calling...!!

OLDIES Are all fans who are one day older than oneself which raises the justified question: what are people who are that old even doing in this fandom? Other than that, they‘re actually really the better fans (see also: Grützel).

SUPER-MARKET Holds a very special fascination for Bill. Being able to buy his yoghurt by himself apparently happens to be the ultimate epitome of freedom!

TWINCEST Is awfully fascinating for many fans. Good fans pretend like they don‘t know what it is. Twin-whaaat??

PIERCING Guys with pierced belly-buttons are gay. See also: Gay.

GRÜTZEL Are the better fans: tough, loyal like dogs, wind- and weather-resistant and always on the move once the band is as well.

STALKER Are the reason why the twins are now living in L.A.. Thanks a bunch! www.monsunmagazin.com

SOON Has its very own meaning in the Tokioworld because it doesn‘t mean “tomorrow“ or “in a week“ or “in a month“ but points at an unknown, indefinite moment in some faraway future.

Bill and Tom with facial hair - I bet, many of us couldn‘t even properly imagine that. Same for me, I couldn‘t even guess what that would look like. But nothing‘s impossible for our super-twins and bang, our thoughts became the hard truth. Whether this is actually something, you‘d want to see or not, that‘s of course another question. In the first picture that had Bill and his beard in it, I have to admit, I thought it was dirt on his face at first - but whatever! Bad camera, bad quality of the video, maybe he didn‘t wash his face properly in the morning... hey, as a real fan, you never stop believing after all! But even the pictures that followed didn‘t exactly manage to make that darn beard more attractive or prettier to me - worse, it even seemed as if it had miraculously multiplied because it had infected Tom as well! And not only that - that relatively harmless 3-o-clock shadow even morphed into something akin to a daring moustache and phew, Tom, I never...! ;D According to Bill in the Russian Bravo, Tom and him usually run around unshaven at home... and in case that‘s really true, I REALLY don‘t want to imagine that - considering all the time they usually spend inside, those beards must grow into monsters even the Yeti would be proud of!! Personally, I‘m a very anti-beard person myself and I think that it doesn‘t really fit the twins and their style - I‘d rather they go back to their usual baby-faced selves! But hey, everyone‘s gotta decide for themselves and thank God that everyone‘s got different tastes. Bill has shown himself without his beard in the meantime - hey, Tom, this is me giving you a broad hint as well! - and with that has given us anti-beard fans a bit of hope! ...but then the beard came back (and doesn‘t that sound like a really bad horror movie? „The Return of the Beard of Doom!“) so the beard-lovers (do those fans even exist?) got something out of it as well. Some hairy issue this is, seriously! Well, we‘ll see. It‘ll certainly keep us up on our toes! Dr. Nics still recommends: Shave! Quickly! (If you boys want, I‘ll help and even make room for you in my home office!) SEITE 52
