FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Dear Parents and Caregivers, ANZAC Day Monkland State School will be conducting its ANZAC ceremony on Wednesday the 24th of April beginning at 2:15 pm. The afternoon ceremony will consist of a choir performance, special guest address from Mr Bontoff of the local RSL branch and our school leaders. Monkland will once again be involved in the Gympie ANZAC day march down the main street. This event is steeped with tradition and we aim to have a strong following of support on the day. You can show your support by promoting this event to your children and encourage them to march for the school. Students are to be in full school (maroon shirt and black shorts or gold shirt and maroon shorts) uniform and meeting outside the Commonwealth Bank on Smithfield street at 10:00am. NAPLAN The Literacy and Numeracy testing of NAPLAN for students in years 3, 5 and 7 is scheduled for week 5 on the Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th of May. Students will be tested in five domains of Grammar and Punctuation, Spelling, Reading Comprehension, Writing and Math. Students have been preparing for these tests since the beginning of term 4 2012, and we aim for a strong performance. Monkland Market Stall A reminder to all families that Monkland State School has a monthly market stall to raise the profile of the school and raise money for each class. On a monthly rotation classes take turns in hosting the stall. So far Prep 1 and Year4/5 have taken part with Years 2/3 and 6/7 due in the coming months. If you would like to be involved contact your classroom teacher. Yours truly,
