TRANEMO ™ SKINSAFE

The multi-layer protection system that’s greater than the sum of its parts

REAL SAFETY STARTS WITH YOU As a world-leading supplier of Inherent Flame Retardant workwear, we understand that every garment we create must be of the highest quality. Starting at skin level, we have taken a human-centric approach to design, putting the individual at the focus of protection.

WHAT IS TRANEMO ™ SKINSAFE ? Tranemo Skinsafe™ is the name of our multi-layer system designed to protect against flame, heat and electric arc injuries. By adding layers we create airgaps which increase the protection of the system to be much larger than the sum of its parts. Starting at skin level, we have taken a human-centric approach to design, putting the individual in focus. How does your working day look? What are your needs? Tranemo Skinsafe™ helps you meet your daily challenges, however tough these may be.

THE MULTI-LAYER PROTECTION SYSTEM Tranemo Skinsafe™ is the name of our multi-layer system designed to protect against flame, heat and electric arc injuries. Here’s how this is achieved.

LAYER 1 – SKIN PROTECTION In the event of an accident, wearing the wrong underwear can lead to the fabric burning and melting onto your skin. To protect against this, our Flame Retardant underwear offer the following benefits: » Inherent Flame Retardant safety

» Anti-static

» Soft and comfortable

» Does not give bad odour

LAYER 2 – INSULATION An insulating mid-layer should be worn to increase comfort during the colder months of the year. This layer creates a distance between layer 1 and 3 which insulates against electricity and heat as well as low temperatures.

LAYER 3 – SHIELD The primary function of any outer layer must be protection – however, to be worn every day, these garments should also fit the body snugly and offer comfort, freedom of movement and meet practical needs such as storage.

AIR GAP The air gaps between the layers of the Tranemo Skinsafe™ system have a low conductivity of electricity and heat. As well as insulating against cold in the winter they provide extra safety in any number of demanding work situations.

TRANEMO â„¢ SKINSAFE FROM THE INSIDE OUT

FROM THE INSIDE OUT They say a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. That’s why we recommend using inherent flame retardant clothing from the inside out. Cotton burns, polyester melts and metal transmits electrical current. Think about this when choosing underwear, bras (preferably without metal clips), socks, hats, belts and helmets – and don’t forget about gloves, head and eye protection. IEC 61482-2 – ONE STANDARD, TWO TEST METHODS EN 61482-1-1 Open Arc Test This tests the protection level of the garment by using an open arc. The result is given in cal/cm² and the value helps you to choose the right level of protection. PPE Category 4 - >40 cal/cm²

EN 61482-1-2 Box Test This tests the protection class of the garments by using a constrained and direct arc. To reach class 2, a system with two or three layer of fabric or a thicker garment such as a winter garment is needed.

PPE Category 3 - 25-40 cal/cm²

Class 1 – 168kJ (4kA, 400V)

PPE Category 2 - 8-25 cal/cm²

Class 2 – 320kJ (7kA, 400V)

PPE Category 1 - 4-8 cal/cm²

CANTEX When adding a third layer to Cantex underwear and Cantex Hi-Vis garments, the protection increases even further. A three layer system is the most common combination for steelworks and other heavy industries where the wearer is exposed to high levels of energy and heat. In these scenarios, protection against heat transfer and arcing is vital – Cantex inherent flame retardant characteristics represent your best defence against these.

TERA TX Tera TX is our most popular layering choice in the power industry and for other outdoor jobs. In combination with the Merino wool underwear you get a system that is perfect for working outside at changing levels of intensity. It warms even when wet and if you sweat, you won’t freeze afterwards thanks to its superior heat retention capability. Below we show different examples of Tranemo Skinsafe™ systems. THE FLEXIBILITY OF TRANEMO SKINSAFE™ The use of multiple thinner layers instead of one thick offers the wearer the following additional benefits.

LIGHTWEIGHT The layers of air in the Tranemo Skinsafe™ system increase protection against heat, electricity and cold. They also contribute to a system that has a combined weight that is much less than a single garment with the same protection. This weight reduction allows the wearer to work more effectively and for longer periods.

FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT Soft, thin garments with ergonomic design offer much better freedom of movement than thick garments. Thanks to this, the difference the wearer feels at the end of the working day is remarkable.

THE RIGHT FIT The multi-layer system gives the wearer the opportunity to easily ‘fine-tune’ their clothing. Put on more when the weather demands this or go down to a comfortable base protective level when the risk is lower and the temperature is higher.
