Club Championships

World Squash Day

The past 12 months have been a very busy time for the Club.

Club Championships preliminary rounds will be held on Saturday 6 October with finals to be held in conjuction with World Squash Day on Saturday 20 October.

World Squash Day will be held on Saturday 20 October.

Our membership numbers have significantly increased from previous years. This is very pleasing and reflects the hard work of many willing volunteers and exemplary members. Congratulations go to all of our pennant winners and finalists across all grades. In the past 2 seasons we have increased the number of Pennant teams and hopefully it will increase further next year.

Prizes will be awarded to winners of each grade. Open to all players. Grades will be determined once registrations are confirmed. Date: Saturday 6 October Time: 10am-1pm Format: Matches will be best of 3, point a rally to 15. Guaranteed at least 3 matches.

As the AGM approaches, I would like to thank the staff of Monash Sport for their assistance during the year. My sincere thanks also go to the other members of the Club Committee, without whom much of the Club’s success wouldn’t have happened.

Cost: Entry is free for all Club members

Finally, thank you to the members, for your support and participation over the past 12 months. Our aim is to create a friendly, enjoyable and competitive Club for players of all abilities, and with your understanding and involvement we can make that happen.

The Club AGM will take place on Saturday October 20, 1pm, Sport Common Room.

The next 12 months promise to be just as exciting.

On this day, Clubs around the globe, including ours are doing their part to Back The Bid for Squash to be included in the 2020 Olympics. Players will join global teams of either Team Squash or Team 2020, in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest squash match in history. All results at the end of the day will be gathered together to count towards a global overall score. Open to all players.

Women’s Social Squash

Jacqui Williamson

Congratulations to both the Monash B (4) team (Jose, George, Jimmy, Tom and Ash) and the Monash C (5) team (Peter, Nick, Steve and George) for winning their grand finals. Special thanks to the Club members who came to referee and support the teams on the night.

The Club is introducing a Women’s Social Squash night that will run on Mondays from 5-7pm, starting Monday 8 October.

What team do you play for? I play in the Woman’s A grade team and also Open D Reserve. Playing in both teams means I get more match practice but it’s also a great way to meet different people.

Congratulations also to the Monash Women’s C Reserve (2) team (Emelia, Carly and Nilmali) for winning their grand final. Congratulations also to the Women’s B Grade (1) team (Mel, Jo See and Jacqui) for being runners up in their grade. Further congratulations to both Jose Tagaro (B grade) and Titus Tang (D Reserve) for being recognised as ‘Player of the Grade’ in their respective grades.

Join other female Club members for a fun, social, squash practice night. Come meet other players, improve your game, practice some drills or play a friendly competition. The Club coach might also come down to give some tips as well as representatives from Squash Victoria. All levels are welcome and is free for all members. Non-members can pay a special membership to attend these sessions. Thank you to Jessica Nicholls for taking the lead and Jacqui Williamson for agreeing to help out. For more details, contact the Club.

Why did you join the Club? Being a member of the club is a great way to meet new people and I have made some fantastic friends. The club has a great atmosphere. There is always someone to learn from and aspire to and always new players looking for tips and advice too. What do you enjoy most about squash? Playing competition squash gives me the determination and focus to practice hard and stay fit. Also, it is no secret that I love to win! Favourite squash shot? My teammates will say that it is the boast! And although this is probably the shot I play most, my favourite shot would actually be a straight drive from the front of the court. Who do you enjoy beating the most? It is always satisfying to get a few points off the highly ranked boys at practice... you know who you are!!

Squash and Racquetball Club

Best wishes to all players as we move towards the latter half of the season. Remember to check court allocations for Pennant on the noticeboard to avoid disruption to any matches. It is also important that after supper, all dishes, glasses and cutlery that you use are washed and returned to the Club cupboard (if they are ours), tables and wiped and the area is left clean and tidy, otherwise our privileges will be revoked. All players are asked to adhere to any instruction from Monash Sport staff and to display respect at all times. Failure to to do so could result in the withdrawal of playing and membership privileges.
