PROCEEDINGS OF THE

2015

GRAND MASTER’S ADDRESS To the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Missouri: Fraternal greetings to all in attendance here today at our 194th Grand Lodge Communication. It has been a distinct honor of serve as your Grand Master this year. I wish to thank all of the Past Grand Masters who have supported me throughout my journey and offered their aid and counsel especially this year. I only hope that I will be able to assist future Grand Masters. The Grand Lodge officers, including the District Deputy Grand Masters and District Deputy Grand Lecturers, my connection to the Craft, have done an extraordinary job this year and I especially want to thank them for all they have done to make this year a success for Missouri Freemasonry! I would also like to convey a special thank you to their families who were left at home when the officers were away serving the Craft. My schedule this year allowed me to visit four other Grand Lodge Communications. I thank them wholeheartedly for their demonstration of true Brotherly Love. I am pleased to have all of our distinguished guests here with us and hope that you find our hospitality as cordial as I received on my visits to your jurisdictions. I learned much from my visits and have brought some ideas back to Missouri. One such idea is the current lodge configuration of our meeting place today. Brethren, I hope it gives you a feeling of being in a lodge not a convention center. In preparation for my year, I asked the Jurisprudence Committee if I could appoint additional officers than the number in previous years, including an extra Grand Pursuivant, an extra Grand Chaplain, (one for every region), a Grand Musician and a Grand Historian. After reviewing the Constitution, their reply was yes to the Grand Pursuivant and Grand Chaplain, but not to the latter two offices. I feel that both would add value to the fraternity and have proposed a simple change to the Constitution to create these two offices. A Grand Musician has been part of our Grand Lodge in the past, but not in compliance with our Constitution. As we approach our Bicentennial in 2021, a Grand Historian could start pulling together the rich history of our past and begin documenting our future. I would ask the Craft to consider and approve this proposed minor change to our Constitution next year.

Area Meetings:

The value of area meetings and/or their format has been discussed many times over the years. I want to say that the enthusiasm shown in every meeting this year was overwhelming! I chose having nine, one in each region and could not have asked for better attendance or better interest from the members. I began my year with an area meeting at Summersville Lodge #555, then Gate of the Temple #422, LaBelle Lodge #222, Marceline #481, Ashland #156, Charleston #407, Tuscan #360, St. Joseph Scottish Rite, and finally Harry S. Truman Lodge #1941. The discussions at the area meetings evolved around six areas.
