Hypertension

Definision

Algorithm for ttt of HTN

Etiology

1)Essential hypertension : 90% no identifiable cause (obesity, Na intake,‌.) 2)Secondary hypertension: renal parenchymal disease,thyroid disease,medications

Benefits of lowering blood pressure(BP)

a)40% decrease in strok b)25% decrease in myocardial infarction(MI) c)50% decrease in heart failure(HF)

Effects of life style modifications on B.P:

Weight reduction , diet rich in fruits ,low fat dairy ,reduce dietary Na intake ,physical activity ,no smoking

Therapeutic management: Normal 12080/ stage II 160100/

stage I 14090/

If Not at goal BP optimize dose or add antihypertensive to reach BP goal

Treatment of hypertension in patients with concomitant diseases. Drug classes shown in blue boxes provide improvement in outcome (for example diabetes or renal disease) independent of blood pressure. [Note: Angiotensinreceptor blockers (ARBs) are an alternative to angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.] ACE = angiotensinconverting enzyme; ARB = angiotensin receptor blocker
