WOODS OVERLOOKING THE
BAY Nonquitt, MA
History: The home is located on the site of R. Swain Gifford’s former art studio. The property is now owned by Chris & Cecilia Ross, who had both spent their childhood summers in the small community of Nonquitt. Chris Ross (Gifford’s Grandson), is currently a State Representative in Pennsylvania where he advocates for alternative energy development, open space, and other green initiatives. Cecilia Lanahan Ross is one of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s remaining granddaughters. She is an artist that focuses on a wide variety of media.
Design Inspiration: Matthew Moger began the design process by touring the site. During his visit, he was inspired by the dueling landscapes of the ocean, salt water marsh and forested areas in between. Out of this came the inspiration for the project (Cabins in the woods, with beach house interiors). The color palette was inspired by the bark on the trees, the berries in the field and the sun-bleached woods along the beach.
