A Letter from the President MAY ISSUE

VOLUME III, ISSUE II

Hey Key Clubbers! I'm proud to say that we've hit the ground running this new service year with many great projects for May Madness! This month, we had many great events, including sessions of the "Sprouting New Leaves" horticulture event for special needs kids, a trip to the Englewood hospital's maternity ward for mother's day, and a service project/fundraiser for the Tenafly recreation "Safe at Home" softball tournament. These were all service projects that directly helped our local Tenafly community. In June, we're continuing our focus on service. Along with sessions of the Horticulture event is the "Kiss a Senior Goodbye" school service project, in which we sell cards to students that they can fill out with messages to the graduating seniors. These cards will be distributed to the seniors along with a bag of Hershey's kisses at the graduation rehearsal. In addition, we will once again be helping out at graduation by setting up for the event and handing out waters and programs. We will also be face-painting at the annual Tenafly 5k run and helping out at the Smith school carnival. Finally, we will be continuing our exciting annual Eliminate ice cream eating contest, a contest that students participate in with proceeds going to the Eliminate Project! With the end of the school year comes a fantastic end of the year for Key Club! To celebrate the end of the year and all of the amazing volunteer work we've done, we will be holding our annual end-of-year BBQ! At the BBQ, we will be eating delicious junk food and drinks and recognizing all of our hard-working Tenafly Key Club members for their hours! I'm personally extremely excited to end the school year with a bang at the BBQ, to talk to all of my Key Club friends, and award members with their hours awards! Yours in Caring and Service, Mabel Zhang President

Kiss a Senior Goodbye Blow them one last kiss~ As the seniors are on the graduating track, the Key Club would like to give each of the seniors a small bag of Hershey Kisses to "kiss" them goodbye. Along with these small bags of chocolates will be small cards. These cards will be sold for $0.25 during lunch periods. Buy one and write a lovely, sappy, funny, or ridiculous message to your graduating friends! Jae Shin Lieutenant Governor

Sprouting New Seeds Throughout the months of May and June, Key Clubbers have been working with children with special needs. We were each paired up with a child, and we showed them how to plant seeds in a hydroponics system. Member Diana Kim says “it was definitely a fun experience and I learned a lot, not academically but in the sense of humility. It was an eye opening experience where I found that I take my health for granted. I also more specifically learned from my buddy, Sarah, the definition of a perfect daughter. Being the perfect daughter doesn't mean getting good grades or being amazingly talented, but just whole heartedly loving your family and being grateful for everything you have. Thanks to Sarah I've learned to be more humble and view things in a different perspective.

The last event will take place on Thursday, June 12th in the Library. Make sure to sign up and ask Jackie Dragon if you have any questions!
