IVICA BARIČEVIĆ BARA 173

IVICA “BARA” BARIČEVIĆ Darko Kujundžić recalls the life of Ivica “Bara” Baričević (1971-2002), the concert promoter, musician and graphic designer who had a huge influence over the Zagreb alternative scene. Besides setting up his own label, Earwing Records, Bara was the co-founder (along with Mate Škugor) of Žedno uho (Thirsty Ear), the concert-booking agency and music festival that is still going strong twenty years on. He was also an influential figure in the early days of Močvara. During the mid-1990s, Bara’s flat was the unofficial centre of the Zagreb alternative scene. This was where people met on a daily basis to listen to music, lay plans for new fanzines, concerts, album sleeves and concert posters, or simply to enjoy exchanging ideas with Bara. “We were all in a constant state of admiration for the sheer energy that Bara devoted to everything he was involved in. Unfortunately, the intensity which he worked and lived with eventually caught up with him. We may have lost Bara physically, but the results of his work are all around us.”
