Your tactical mobility solutions HELIPAD
About Brownouts: The term brownout means a reduction in flight visibility due to airborne dust and particles. Brownouts caused by blowing sand are a life-and-death hazard for helicopter pilots and the troops they transport, particularly during the phase of the landing flight. In 2005, two CH47D Chinooks were lost due to brownout conditions. In the first accident, a US Army Chinook helicopter crashed near the city of Ghazni in Afghanistan, killing 18 people on-board, after encountering spatial disorientation during a severe dust storm. In a second brownout-related accident, a Royal Netherlands Air Force Chinook was forced to make a hard landing at Spin Buldak in Afghanistan that ultimately led to its destruction by fire. The threat caused by brownout is taken very seriously because the dust is extremely fine thus generating thicker clouds.
Mobi-Mat® Helipads: The Mobi-Mat® helipads are used to reduce brownouts, build Forward Operating Bases (FOB) and Forward Arming and Refueling Point (FARP) while enabling helicopters to operate closer to the battlefront. This expedient capability shortens the Forces response time and provides the war fighter increased flexibility for Landing Zones (LZ), Drop Zones (DZ) and Medical Evacuations (MEDEVAC). Lightweight, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and expeditionary, Mobi-Mat® Helipad has been used to support rotary aircraft to include the CH-46, CH-53, AH-1, UH-1 and AH-64. Mobi-Mat® Helipad, type A2X (1.65kg/sqm - 0.34 lb/sqft) was tested and selected as the lightweight/medium duty matting for rotary-wing aircraft by the Naval Air Warfare Center in Lakehurst, NJ and later won a comparative testing carried out by the 326th Engineer Battalion from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, KY. Easily transported by C-130, C-17 and CH-47, Mobi-Mat® Helipad is durable enough to sustain thousands of direct helicopter loads; reusable; easy to install without special tools; require little training; environmentally friendly; NVG-compatible; and low in cost.

Helipad Portable Landing Mat
Mobi-Mat速 Helipad is designed for the rapid and safe establishment of landing zones for expedtionary Forward Operating Bases (FOB), Forward Arming and Refueling Point (FARP), Drop Zones (DZ), and Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC). Safe and cost effective
Mobi-Mat速 Helipad reduces the hazards caused by blowing sand, dirt, snow and stones while preventing damage to either the aircraft or personnel. The matting saves on the wear and tear on expensive helicopter rotor blades and engines by reducing the introduction of FOD (Foreign Object Damage).
Mobi-Mat速 patented surface follows ground contour without permanent deformation and resists to heavy wheeled vehicles.
Highly visible area
The crew can locate and orientate on it from considerable distances.
Non-slip porous surface
Secures personnel movement near the aircraft and its porosity allows the passage of liquids thus reducing the risk of fire.
Easy installation and reconfiguration
One roll is easily carried and deployed by 2 persons. Connectors and stakes are in the kit for easy assembly of any desired dimensions.
Minimum site preparation required
Provides considerably more flexibility in site selection over steel, aluminium or composite matting.
The U.S. Armed Forces has and continues to use Mobi-Mat速 successfully during ongoing operations.
