Will A GPS Golf Watch Or Hand Held GPS Help Your Game? ____________________________________________________ By Jake Michael - http://handheldgames.net/
If you are anything like me, you're always looking for something to help improve your golf game. With modern technology and improvements in GPS receivers, one facet of your game can be improved by a Golf GPS unit. Your club selection depends on proper distance to the pin, don't you think it would be beneficial to know exactly what the distance is. That is where Golf GPS systems come into play. They will tell you exactly how far to the green from anywhere on the golf course, even if you can not see it. The GPS system, which stands for, Global Positioning System is a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the US Department of Defense. Now it's used worldwide for navigation. There are few new cars that don't have a GPS unit. There are two types of Golf GPS units. Click Here
GPS Golf Watch, which is little larger than a normal watch, but does not get in the way. It will tell you the distance to the hole and to the front and back of the green. Handheld Golf GPS unit, that will give you a picture of the green with distances to the hole, front and back of the green, plus distances to any hazards, water or sand traps. The most important thing to remember when deciding on a Golf GPS unit is to buy one that suits your needs. A GPS Golf Watch is the unit of choice when you play the same courses all the time. You already know where the sand traps and water hazards are; you just need to know the distance to the green for proper
club selection. The GPS Golf Watch is the most convenient to use as it's on your wrist all the time. You just have to look at your watch to check the distance. Handheld Golf GPS units are the choice when you want more information. They will give you an aerial view of the course with the sand traps, trees and water hazards and the distances to them. If you play different courses all the time, this information comes in very handy. How many times have you been on the tee of a dog leg not knowing what club to use? Your handheld golf GPS will give you the distance to the corner giving you the information you need for the proper club selection.
Another consideration is if the Golf GPS comes with preloaded golf courses or if you have to download them from the Internet. Garmin is the maker of the GPS Golf Watch the leader in GPS units of all types. This is the only watch type, golf GPS that I can find at this time. It comes preloaded with 18,000 U.S. and Canadian courses, and they have an upgrade every 3 months at no cost. The handheld GPS golf units some of them come with a large number of courses, as many as 40,000 courses World Wide, probably 30,000 of which you'll never be near. Some of the handheld units have a membership fee for you to download courses that are not preloaded. It's not a lot, but it is an added cost. For instance, I have a Sonocaddie, and they gave you 5 courses of your choice download with the unit and then it was $5 a download or a $29.95 membership for unlimited U.S. course downloads, although now I see they have 16,000 preloaded courses.
