Mid Norfolk Mencap Support Services The purpose of Mid Norfolk Mencap Support Services is to support and enable the people who use our service to live fulfilling lives, to be involved members their local community and to have access to the same opportunities as every other section of society. Mid Norfolk Mencap Support Services aims to empower individuals to make informed choice and to allow them to take responsibility for the choices they make, supporting them when they are confronted with difficulties and building upon their positive experiences.

MERLE BODDY HOUSE Merle Boddy House is a residential service in Dereham, Norfolk provided by Mid Norfolk Mencap for ten adults with learning disabilities. The service opened in 1990. Mid Norfolk Mencap is a local society affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society which operates in support of people with learning disabilities and their families and carers in the Mid Norfolk area.

OUR VISION, MISSION AND VALUES Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. What Mencap wants (our vision) Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened and included. We want everyone to have the opportunity to achieve the things they want out of life.

The purpose of Merle Boddy House is to provide a high quality, safe, comfortable and supportive home environment for its residents. Support for residents at Merle Boddy House is delivered by Mid Norfolk Mencap Support Services, endeavouring to observe the following principles of support: The DIGNITY of residents is to be protected at all times Residents’ right to PRIVACY is to be respected Residents are to be enabled to exercise free and informed CHOICE in all aspects of their lives

How Mencap will achieve this (our mission) we will: Listen to people with learning disability. Fight for the changes that people with a learning disability, and their families and supporters, want and need. Support all people living with a learning disability in all parts of their lives. Give excellent information and advice. Work with people and groups that want the same things we do.

Residents are to be supported towards INDEPENDENCE of thought and action

Mencap believes in (our values): Being people centred. Empowering, including and respect all people . Challenging wrong ways of thinking about learning disability. Transforming lives. Being brave and developing new ideas.

The principles of support are derived from the above Mission Statements and are informed by such legislation as the ‘Valuing People’ white paper (2001).

The Trustees of Mid Norfolk MENCAP, incorporating South Norfolk, endorse the Royal MENCAP statements and will endeavour to work towards their ideals in our area.

Residents are to be empowered to assert all RIGHTS associated with citizenship. Residents are to be supported towards FULFILLMENT in all areas of their lives Residents’ INDIVIDUALITY is to be encouraged at all times.

Merle Boddy House is regulated and inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection and complies with statutory requirements under Care Standards (2000).
