OUR VISION, MISSION AND VALUES. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability. And their families and carers. What Mencap wants (our vision) Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. We want everyone to have the opportunity to achieve the thing they want out of life. How Mencap will achieve this (our mission) We will: Listen to people with a learning disability. Fight for the changes that people with a learning disability and their families and supporters want and need. Support people living with a learning disability in all parts of their lives. Give excellent information and advice. Work with people and groups that want the same things we do. Mencap believes in (our values) Being people centred. Empowering, including and respecting all people. Challenging wrong ways of thinking about learning disability. Transforming lives. Being brave and developing new ideas.

Our Family Carers support group was formed in 2003. Membership of the group is open to Family Carers and others who have a direct interest in Norfolk’s Learning Difficulties service.

Meeting Dates

Meetings are held monthly and members are encouraged to share their concerns by informal conversations with other people who are most likely to be in a similar position. It’s also an opportunity to share with others any good practice or special event that some members may have experienced.

10.30am - 12.30pm

We offer good friendship and support for each other and at the same time develop collectively a clearer understanding of the agenda of change within services for both children and adults who have a learning disability (difficulties is the term currently used by Norfolk County Council) By working and sharing together and by increasing our knowledge and general understanding of often quite complex issues we invite speakers with a specialist knowledge of current topics. This gives us an opportunity both to question and help with our understanding of the particular issue. So we hope that you will encourage other family carers know to you to come along to our meetings to talk with other people, learn and enjoy the occasional social events that are part of our programme. We keep an attendance register and ask for a contribution of £2 towards refreshments and room hire costs. Full details direct from the Mencap office 01362 695300 Adrienne Moulding. Direct from Pauline Drury 01362 637895 or Ernie Barnes 01362 693674
