Dear Parishioners, As far as I know, this is the last reflection I will ever write for you. At this opportunity, I would like to remind you that as a parish you have been named after the Mother of God. Your feast day therefore is on January 1. I know it won’t be easy, but I think it would be highly appropriate if you had a major parish celebration every year on that date. Also, please remember May 13 of every year. That is the anniversary of the founding of the parish. It is also the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. It would be a good idea to have a major celebration on that date as well. It is easy to see that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the patron saint of the parish. I would like to encourage you all to have a devotion to the Mother of God. Her intercession is very powerful. And I know that she loves us all very much. If you haven’t prayed your rosary in a while, I suggest you take it up again. As I leave I entrust all of you to her motherly care. I ask you also, to please pray for me, and for my new congregation. Sincerely yours,

Sanctuary Candle burns in memory of Sandra Maltese

3RD ANNUAL FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM Catholic dioceses and parishes across the United States are once again encouraged to raise awareness for domestic and international religious freedom concerns during the third annual Fortnight for Freedom, June 21July 4. The two-week celebration will focus on the theme, “Freedom to Serve,” emphasizing the link between religious liberty and service to the poor and vulnerable. The USCCB has prepared materials to help dioceses and parishes participate in the Fortnight. These materials and more information can be found online at www.fortnight4freedom.org Next week our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Through your generosity, we can cast the peace of Christ upon the world.
