Dear Parishioners, I know that we normally think of praying as asking God for something, and this is a good approach, but I would like to suggest another. Given that we believe in God then how would it be if we actually treated him as if we thought he existed when we prayed? Do we look at ourselves as friends of God when we pray? And more importantly, do we trust him. That is the key issue. Do we trust that he is going to show up? What would happen if I presented myself to God in a quiet place and said, “Speak Lord, I am listening?” Or what if we said, “Lord I make myself available at this moment to encounter you and I want to tell you how much I love you,” and then we simply just rested in the quiet? Would one be disarmed if God actually responded? Because that is a goal a person should hope for, a loving and joyful encounter with God. God is definitely real. But it is up to us to give ourselves time to allow him to meet us. I firmly believe that with determination we will be pleasantly surprised to encounter God in a very meaningful and loving way. Sincerely Yours, Father John Pardue
