Dear Parishioners, Sometimes we hear someone make the following statement, “I’ll do whatever I want to do, and I don’t care what anyone thinks.” Now, granted that it is possible to be overly concerned about the opinion of others, is this attitude always appropriate? “Setting a good example” is an art that needs attention. Parents you know about this one. You know that your children are watching you all the time and you know that you have to be careful, because your children will decide “if Mom and Dad can do it, then so can I.” In Mark 9:42, Jesus says, “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.” We call that giving scandal. If other people decide that sinful acts are not sinful because of our failure to set a good example, then our sin of scandal deserves severe punishment. Remember, there is always someone watching what you are doing. And what we do sometimes has consequences for someone else. Let us strive to set a good example. Sincerely yours,
