DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 7

How long has it been since you have been to confession? In the Gospel for this Sunday, Jesus says to his apostles, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” He gave the leaders of the church the ability to forgive sins. Divine power is given to men. It seems strange that some individuals would decide that they don’t need to go to confession. Why would our Lord give the power of absolution to men if it were not necessary? He wouldn’t. Then we must not decide that we don’t need to go to confession. During this Easter Season, let us examine ourselves and our need to confess our sins to a priest. Sincerely yours, Father John

“Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believed,” Jesus says in today’s Gospel. For those who have not seen to believe, however, we must be good stewards of our faith, living it joyfully and sharing it generously. Then, in our time too, “men and women in great numbers” will be “added to the Lord.” We too can share in the kingdom by our support of Bishop Ronald Herzog’s many ministries and programs that are made possible through funding from the Annual Diocesan Appeal.
